Will God of War's Super Bowl Commercial Score a Touchdown with Consumers?

Push Square: "Of the many criticisms directed at Sony this generation, its perceived marketing deficiencies rank high on the list. Kevin Butler was a stroke of genius for existing fans, there’s no doubt about that, but the platform holder’s inability to appeal on a mainstream scale is an issue that’s constantly acknowledged by analysts and armchair pundits alike. However, God of War: Ascension’s recently announced Super Bowl commercial shows that the company is eager to rectify that – but is it a case of too little, too late?" (God of War: Ascension, PS3)

I could be over-analyzing this, but it seems like this PlayStation ad during the Super Bowl is also putting the brand in a huge spotlight because Sony will be showing the new PlayStation at E3. In other words, putting PlayStation in the minds of all the viewers watching the game and then once again when the new system is announced later this year

No, I think you're right. I think this is just as much about promoting the PlayStation platform as this is trying to sell copies of God of War.

yes you are right
god of war will sell tons anyway
but this really will help the playstaion brand
get alot of ppl talking about the games on the system

It will. It's the undeniable fact of marketing.

i personally dont think so, i mean there was no gameplay but when you think about it god of war is very mainstream who doesnt know about god of war.

Yep. 99 yards plus a 2-point conversion. This is the most watched event in America. Sony's gonna get some serious momentum from this ad.

I don't know if a rip off scene from Gladiator is enough to market the game.

More ingame action is needed.

I don't believe GoW was a game that needed a big budget advertising campaign. It sells by itself. Money would have been better spent on something else. Like advertising Beyond later in the year.

I dont think so.

Only fans of the game are going to know what the hell is going on. Everyone else will just be shaking their heads.

They should show some amazing looking gameplay footage to hook people in straight away.

No since the ad will only be shown on a stream. The stream that will be airing the ad managed 2.1 million viewers last years SuperBowl.

So this commercial wont be on TV?
Riderz1337  +   108d ago
No, only on a live stream.

They should've did The Last of US for the SuperBowl instead of GoWØ, IMO.
Karpetburnz  +   108d ago
They couldve, But I think because God of War is comming out very soon, and they need to Advertise the game more. Superbowl is the perfect oppertunity.

The Last of Us still has a few months of advertising to come.
