The best way I've found to get someone into gaming is simply to play the game in front of them. I've had a lot of moments in my life where a girlfriend or a younger sibling would get hooked into a game simply by watching me play.
That happened to me with some university friends. They would just sit their and watch me play Uncharted 2. It was a little uncomfortable and I asked if they wanted to play but they said it was like watching a movie.
