Retro Studios Needs to Make Darksiders III

It’s been a very interesting few weeks for Vigil Studios, creators of the Darksiders franchise. In the wake of THQ’s bankruptcy, Vigil and other THQ properties were auctioned off, but Darksiders has yet to find a home. Even when a number of Vigil employees were hired to form Crytek USA, there was no interest in their only established video game series.

If recent rumors are to be believed, a number of former Vigil employees jumped ship for Nintendo-owned developer Retro Studios in the months before THQ’s bankruptcy. With the Darksiders IP still up for grabs, and likely at a relatively low cost, it simply makes sense for them to take advantage of this opportunity

The story is too old to be commented.

That the core artists have all apparently moved to Retro means that the game would have maximum consistency on a visual level. The trick would be injecting it with what it needs to have that Nintendo-like quality, which I don't think would be a problem with Nintendo overseeing everything Retro does. I'd be curious to see how this turns out, though I admittedly don't think it's too likely.

Well, they always deploy the Super Mario Club debugging team for quality insurance.

Anyway, I think that would be pretty cool, plus Vigil already felt a lot like Legend of Zelda anyway. So, I think it's a good fit for Nintendo.

By the way, I love your avatar. FFXII was amazing, probably the most underrated big title ever last generation.

If that's what they're planning with the Vigil Employees then no. If Nintendo becomes the publisher of the future Darksiders games, then i fear a lot of great ideas and designs from Zelda will carry over, and there's just gonna be controversy around Darksiders copying zelda or something. Face it: If Crytek isn't planning on continuing the franchise, it's dead already.

Well, they (reportedly) hired these employees before THQ went bankrupt and Vigil's status went in flux. So I don't think they hired them with Darksiders in mind, but there's the potential for that in the future.

If they did become the publisher for Darksiders, I don't think you'd have anything to worry about, after all Nintendo is also responsible for publishing games like Eternal Darkness, Fatal Frame 4, the Fatal Frame 2 remake, as well as Ninja Gaiden Razor's edge and the upcoming Bayonetta 2. All games that according to people who proclaim to be gamers don't consider to fit Nintendo's MO.

I always thought that Raven Blade could have had major potential and with western RPG's at their peak right now. It might be the right time to revisit such a game. What I'm really interested in, is if e3 will be where Nintendo announces this other major title that they secured as an exclusive for the WiiU. (it was hinted maybe a month ago, that if Bayonetta 2 upset people. Then this would really set the internets on fire!)

I think there definitely needs to be a Darksiders 3. Nintendo did save the Bayonetta franchise (at least we'll see how Bayonetta 2 sells...).

I think Vigil just needs a little direction with Darksiders 2 and tone back some of the puzzles. They have some excellent combat mechanics that need more attention - at least in my opinion.
