Gun Commando (PlayStation Mobile) Review - Push Square

Push Square: "Gun Commando is a neat idea, but it falls apart in the final stages. The nostalgic presentation is a strong lure, but the sloppy controls and relentless difficulty let it down. It may be an accurate representation of the genre that it's attempting to celebrate, but times have changed." (Gun Commando, PS Vita, Retro) 5/10

This dolt reviewer didn't understand the game, or retro gaming for that matter. Part of the appeal and charm of retro style games is the funky controls. But in this game it doesnt effect anything once you get the hang of it and once you realize what type of game this is. Its not a run and gun, like I also assumed it would be. You have to play tactical and smart as to not miss the aliens and keep your upgrade meter up.

The game is a blast but its not without a few, small flaws. There is a grading system form level, but it is pretty shallow as you cant at any point go back to levels you have already completed and play again. Nor does the game track the grades you get. Its only a momentary thing.

Also, and this applies to prety much all the PlayStation Mobil games, the options are a skeleton. This sucks for me as I like to listen to music and podcasts and theres no way to adjust sound. You can only mute or have it full blast.
