Xseed explains why it continues to support the Wii and PSP even though Nintendo and Sony don’t

Xseed Games is known for bringing niche Japanese games to English-speaking audiences, but it’s also got a habit of putting out games for seemingly dead platforms. Xseed VP Ken Berry talks with Digital Trends about how to keep consoles alive. (PSP, Wii, XSEED Games)

Xseed hasn't given up on the Vita either.

This was said by the XSeed community Manager, over at Gaf

"Also, I've said this in many places, but the Vita is SO not dead! People give up on these systems waaaaaay too quickly. Ragnarok Odyssey has been doing great, and the system seems to have a very bright future ahead of it.

People seem to assume that new systems must be absolute runaway successes for all parties IMMEDIATELY or they're simply never going to be successful at all. But the past has proven this incorrect time and time again, and I think the Vita is no exception there. All this "doom and gloom" about it seems so silly, considering it's not even a year old here in North America yet! It hasn't even learned to crawl, much less walk. Give it time, though, and it'll be zoomin' all over the place. ;)

(And obviously, I can't comment on anything related to actual game announcements. I just wanted to throw in my two cents on Steam and Vita.)"

I don't have a link, but it was posted by a user (M.U.G.E.N) from Vgcharts.

Very true. What people DON'T UNDERSTAND is.

The mass market of Gamers is 5-18 year olds. Who don't have a lot of money. I'm 21 and 21+ gamers must be a minority.

So all the kids and their parents are right now buying cheap consoles for their kids , Wii , 360 , ps3. Because now they're affordable.

But there comes a point porbably 1.5 years from now when those consoles are just not supported any more. The next 3D mario , Next gen CoD , Gran turismo all hit the shelves and people start buying the new consoles.

Same will happen to Vita. Once it becomes affordable with games like Gran turismo , it will fly off the shelves.

People saying ''360 and ps3 are outselling wiiu'' is retarded , as those console have always been competing with wii , which has outsold them both globably.

The Wiiu is meant to compete with xbox 720 and ps4 for at least 5 years .

Your so wrong, average gamer is aged around 35.

NOT 5-18
Godchild1020  +   983d ago
I think you both are wrong and right. So, I can't agree nor disagree with either of you.

With the introduction of tablets and mobile gaming the average age of a gamer has expanded. My 3 year old cousin plays games and now my aunts, uncles and parents plays games due to mobile games. While they may not play on a PS3, 360 or a Wii U, they do play games and enjoy them.

@ Ranma1 have you ever seen a kid ? THEY ALL PLAY VIDEO GAMES AND NOT EVERY 35 YEAR OLD PLAYS VIDEO GAMES. I had to caps cause his post makes no sense.

"Your so wrong" .............no, please use common sense. Also I have a Vita and its Fing awesome.

I have owned Grey Gameboy, GBA with no backlight, GBA SP, Nintendo DS Lite and PSP. The Vita is a game changer in handheld gaming, you open it the first time and it lets you know " I WASN'T MADE with CHEAP PARTS MOTHER######"

Well, it's quite understandable why so many people have given up on the Vita. The actual software support for it in the Western market has been abysmal.

That was a problem for the 3DS, too, but Nintendo recognized that it was an issue, openly acknowledged that it was an issue, and worked at fixing the issue, so it was really only a problem for the first 8 months or so.

Sony has done none of those things, and there's nothing to indicate that SoA or SoE are even aware of the problem. Therefore, it's quite easy to lose hope.

And regarding XSEED, they don't risk as much with their games--low budget titles mostly aimed at existing niche markets--so they're better able to rely on faltering or dwindling markets than companies that require (EA) or expect (Nintendo) much larger profit margins.

im 36 and i thank the gods everyday for publishers like X SEED, i like Japanese games almost exclusively, i love the creativeness of their games, i like some western games but i hate it when a japanese company says they are trying to westernize games, thats NOT what the japanese game fans want.

I love these guys for bringing Y's series to PC.
Eamon  +   983d ago
Gotta give it to these guys. They take big risks to bring us really good games when Sony and Nintendo don't want to.

I would never have got to play the masterpiece called Xenoblade if it weren't for them.
catch  +   982d ago
Actually if I remember correctly Nintendo brought over Xenoblade while Xseed brought The Last Story (another brilliant game)
Eamon  +   982d ago
Oh really? I had been under the impression that it was Xseed that proposed to Nintendo to let them translate the game?
catch  +   982d ago
Nope! looked it up and while I wouldn't have been surprised if you were right it was Nintendo themselves who (finally) decided to publish it in NA.

I think quite a few 3rd party developers still support the Wii and PSP, I'm glad for it. I only recently got into the PSP and I'm finding a ton of great games on the cheap. I've had a Wii for a while, but I am still enjoying a lot of the games that release for it. I know my family all loves the Just Dance series, so those obviously will continue to sell well.

When you have an established user group, you continue to put games out for those people. It makes sense.
sdozzo  +   983d ago
There are millions upon millions of those devices in the public. You'd support them too.
