CES 2013: Oculus Hands-on

The Oculus looks great, especially in a developmental stage. I wonder how it is going to react with the next gen consoles when the come out. If it going to have the ability to work on next gen consoles.

I can't see them not trying to make it compatible to the next gen consoles for the sheer fact that these things wont be popular with the general public if all they can use them on is old tech. New Tech on Old Tech isn't really appealing.

There are a number of factors, that could prevent it coming to next gen consoles.
1. Sony has their own headset although it is priced at $1000.
2. Need 60fps and vsynced and at a res of 1080p for the retail version and done in 3D.
3. Only a few games support it- Like 3D PS3 had 50 games that ran it, whereas PC has 400+

Really its going to be what they focus on, do they want substantially better graphics that make people go wow this looks next gen (this would especially help sell next gen consoles to the masses). Or better graphics but allow room for VR technology.

Console gamers wont pay over $99 for an accessory. They either 1.) have a small budget or 2.) use a console + do pc gaming (in which case they could just buy this $300-400 accessory for the pc).

Hell no I can't take Hip-Gamer seriously after the dumb shit he has said about the Xbox 360 and his TV. The guy is in the gaming industry and thinks refresh rates make graphics in game look better. I can't put up with stupidity like that, sorry.

"If I set my TV to 250Hz my games look better.." It's a fucking refresh rate it doesn't improve graphics just makes game play smoother you moron. To make matters worse he was comparing CoD's graphics to PS3's while yapping on how his refresh rate on his TV makes every game look 100X more amazing.

I can't take anyone seriously who actually supports that idiot or hangs out with him. I am equally as excited about this tech as I am as the next gen systems. If I had $300 I could blow, Id consider buying the kick starter to try out what devs come up with in the coming year.

I see a lot of potential with the Oculus. At the same time, developers already have to worry about 3D, motion controls, etc. Now they might have to add yet another equation, making dev teams bigger and more expensive. A lot of devs aren't risking it anymore and going on XBLA/PSN or even Indie. Somehow, I can't blame this.

It's still great tech, but if devs are 'pushed' into supporting these new technologies while hindering the creation of new IP's due to risk vs reward...well, that is not good.

Oculus is THE FIRST piece of tech in the past couple of years that MADE me start saving up for it. It'll be a STUNNING experience, trust me.
