Game Informer - Test Chamber – Ni No Kuni: Wrath Of The White Witch

Game Informer - Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch launches today. With plenty of name recognition behind it with Level-5 and Studio Ghibli at the helm, we wanted to give you a deeper look at the game. (Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, PS3)

Should of done this when you originally wrote the review.

Good to know that you didn't go into it with much depth before writing it though. Explains a lot.

This game defines captivation, which is a wholly different beast than immersion. Remember that magic that some feel has gone out of gaming? Its here in Ni No Kuni in spades.

The GI review reminds me of the article the other day asking if game journalism was dead. Thanks for the confirmation GI.

I agree. This is reiner, probably did this to help clean up the mess that was apotential goty review. Its sad that the one who did review it was an avid rpg fan. Crazy to me. They carry alot of weight and i am sure they have received thousands of complaints not including all of us online.

Reviews are based on someones opinion. If everyone liked everything then it would be a boring world. Why will people understand this ?

Reviews aren't suppose to be about opinion, they are suppose to be factual analyzation of the gameplay mechanics, the game design, story plot, character development and overall pacing of the game. Sure, story and characters can opinion but to analyze a story there is a basic structure that should be followed and how well they blend together to form the story. Bad game design is bad game design, there isn't an opinion about it, same with story structure though weather a story is enjoyable or not is opinion. The overall recommendation if a reader should buy the game or not is opinion but if the reviewer does their job right they would have already convinced someone to buy the game or not. Not every game is for everyone, sure, but reviewers today don't look at game design anymore they just say what they need too to bash or hype a game nothing more. Reviewers are however suppose to be unbiased.

This game is really well done, although I can definitely see why people would have issues enjoying the story since the main character is a child so everything in the game is made to be in the eyes of a child (hence some familiar names like Ruffian...he's a dog)

Well said. There was once a time that gaming journalists followed the standards you have described, but now people just throw out the "it's their opinion" card as a lame form of defense. No, I'm sorry, but what are these guys PAID for? To provide a comprehensive and factual analysis on a game. To keep journalistic standards high in the industry they support. Obviously you can't escape opinion, but you can provide a truly balanced review and maintain journalistic integrity. That has gone out of the window almost COMPLETELY, and now amateur bloggers are considered for Metacritic etc.
