Vigil Games Crafts A Fitting Tribute To The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword

On its Facebook page, Vigil Games says it made the artwork as a tribute to one of its favorite video games, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Since its inception in 2005, the developer made two games – Darksiders and Darksiders II – both of which were inspired by The Legend of Zelda series. (PC, PS3, Wii, Wii U, Xbox 360)

Vigil deserves a new home.
No one picked them up, which boggles the mind.
aviator189  +   574d ago
I agree. This is the one main thing that pissed me off about the auction.
Manchild  +   573d ago
OT: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is one of the best games ever & the pinnacle of motion gaming
@chuk5, check out the link below. It seems that Platinum Games is interested in the Darksiders franchise so it might just end up purchasing it or the entire Vigil games.

@relientk77, Vigil was actually working on a totally new type of game. It was codenamed "Crawler". Here's what THQ president Jason Rubin had to say about the game: "When the teams got together recently to show each other their titles, Crawler dropped the most jaws." That talent will land somewhere though..but yea would be nice to see a studio stick together.
Firefwy  +   573d ago
Investors/publishers want to buy studios and IPs that make money. Unfortunately, Darksiders II lost money for Vigil and THQ, which is why I suspect they weren't purchased at auction.

I think potential buyers are simply waiting for the price to come down. There's just way too much talent there for the whole studio to close shop.
Kennytaur  +   573d ago
It's also because they were in early development of a new IP, which meant a publisher would have to pay them for developing a couple of years and then for marketing. Seeing how Vigil only has two games in their belt, it would be a huge risk for a company to buy them.

But it is a real shame as I had high hopes for the studios future.
Instigator  +   573d ago
I'd buy Vigil if I had the money...:/
llMurcielagoll  +   573d ago
I just hope that Vigil would be bought by a good publisher some day, anything but those fat vulture EA hellbillies.
ironfist92  +   573d ago
I was hoping Ubisoft would snatch em up, Darksiders is a fitting game for their line of franchises
llMurcielagoll  +   573d ago
@Ironfist92 Indeed! Ubisoft would make a great home for Vigil games.

Will just have to wait and see.

What really boggles my mind is why can'nt anyone make a good Zelda clone.

Zelda is my favorite franchise in the world but I am starting to get sick of how Nintendo has been handling it latly.

Sure Zelda was never about graphics, story telling or voice acting but I feel like Zelda needs to make a bold move into the next gen era and wow us with awesome graphics and an actual story with Link finally speaking...this and the awesome gamplay and universe that makes Zelda what is would be my dream come through.

If Nintendo does not want to move forward with Zelda then someone should make a clone with everything I mentioben...I dont care if Nintendo fanboys want to call it it a clone as long as it play like Zelda I will buy it.

Okami HD.. Zelda perfected
ElectricKaibutsu  +   573d ago
Okami was great. I don't know why you specified the HD verson, but anyway. Okami didn't fix one of the big issues Knight_Crawler pointed out, the wolf didn't talk either. Personally I don't care if Link talks. I wouldn't mind voice acting for the supporting characters though.
humbleopinion  +   573d ago
Okami, Kameo, Fable, Darksiders
IAmLee  +   573d ago
I've never actually played zelda. -__-

Although I do have windwaker and ocarina of time for gamecube..
God of War devs are looking to hire them.
PopRocks359  +   574d ago
Vigil's a pretty awesome dev. I liked both Darksiders and Darksiders II quite a lot; this is just the icing on the cake.
Kingofwiiu  +   574d ago
Darksiders 1 and 2 are amazing games , that apocalyptic difficulty has you at the edge of your seat.

It's extremely sad that The main dev we all wanted safe from THQ dissolving looks the one to going down the shitter :( .

At least relic got the right home at Sega but stil...
Skate-AK  +   573d ago
I thought Darksiders was easy on apocalyptic diffculty personally. I only died twice. Ended up getting the Platinum trophy last night.
BanBrother  +   573d ago

Did you use a rubber band for the platinum? (Darksiders fans KNOW what I'm talking about. And yes... I did).
Relientk77  +   574d ago
I would love to see what else Vigil has up its sleeve, Darksiders 3, and a new IP?

Too bad that quality does not always mean money = /
sdozzo  +   573d ago
Damn money
CouldHaveYelledUiiW  +   573d ago
I hope Nintendo or Platinum Games picks this up.

It would be a great "mature" IP for them to have-

If the Plat'/NIN' Alliance continues they could build a mighty empire of exclusives for the WiiU.

...Plus, I kind of think Vigil would like to go to Nintendo.

Why do you think Vigil would like to go to Nintendo? Many of them have been tweeting SCEA Santa Monica.
Skate-AK  +   573d ago
He says that cause for some reason he thinks of Platinum Games buys it it will become an exclusive to Nintendo.
CouldHaveYelledUiiW  +   573d ago
They (or the founder) has made mention of Nintendo in many articles.

Plus, their is this cool artwork featuring their character in a Zelda: SS motif.
showtimefolks  +   573d ago
If P game buy this why would it be a Nintendo exclusive? Why would konami or capcom publish darksiders 3 as a next gen title for all 3 systems?

Just because Bayonetta is a exclusive doesn't mean P games are only working for Nintendo

There have been tweats from O games and also Sony Santa Monica so I would LVE to see either pick it up, didn't one of the main developer from darksiders team leave and went to sony santa monica?
CouldHaveYelledUiiW  +   573d ago
True but I said:

"If the Plat'/NIN' Alliance continues they could build a mighty empire of exclusives for the WiiU"

"IF" and "COULD"

Plus, I said, "Nintendo or Platinum"

Chucky2003  +   573d ago
Vigil would like to go anywhere, because they don;t want to loose their jobs, but right now it seems Platinum Games its interested in the Darksiders IP and Sony in some of Vigil's employee, well at least this is from the tweets they are sending

^ "Interesting" Bubble Up Vote To everyone on thread.

I just hope a good company and IP aren't destroyed. Hopefully, they will get to stick together.
dorron  +   573d ago
I guess there will be no Darksiders II Complete Edition then...time to buy it or should I wait?
ironfist92  +   573d ago
Thats what I was waiting for too, but I guess since THQ is out and Vigil is down, there will be no complete edition of DS2 :/
RogueStatus28  +   573d ago
Vigil-> Nintendo
same with platinum games.
Psychonaut  +   573d ago
It would be nice if in the next Zelda title they have a cameo of the Darksiders characters: War, and Death.
Or maybe one of them is a guest character who is in the next Smash Brothers title.
HalfNerdHalfAmazing  +   573d ago
Nintendo should buy Vigil they do need more exclusive games
BoNeSaW23  +   573d ago
I'm gonna follow Darksiders where ever it goes. Nintendo, Sony or Microsoft, I don't care. Someone just buy this IP!

RogueStatus28  +   573d ago
I can imagine Nintendo buying Vigil. Same with Platinum.
RealtorMDandDC  +   573d ago
I can't see Nintendo buying Virgil's IPs, maybe Platinum or Sony yeah. Imagine a Darksiders on PS3 developed by Santa Monica studios...

Nintendo could easily buy this IP and studio and roll them into Retro Studios. I was shocked to find that Retro only employs about 100 people and Platinum Games is twice that. So Vigil could boost up the manpower at Retro, plus they are already accustom to working with HD visuals. Now this is something fans should get together and do a petition for or even a kickstarter for, to get Vigil sold or to show that there's major interest in their future.

Sony Santa Monica Studios, has been courting Virgil's employees....and it started on tweeter....the day the axe came down.

I would have though SotC and Gow were the most obvious influences:

Psychonaut  +   572d ago
I just hope for another entry in the series, it was like a darker Zelda title. granted twilight princess had some dark moments. But I mean overall for a title.
HonestDragon  +   570d ago
Not going to lie, that is one awesome tribute cover. Skyward Sword was one of the best games from 2011. It's a shame Darksiders hasn't been picked up yet. I hope both the series and Vigil find a good home.
