Here are seven 2013 games likely to be good to downright great, which just aren't going to sell.

Why does stuff like this get approved? You know what scratch that, I know exactly why, because they WILL get the hits they're looking for no matter what.

Bayonetta 2 will likely flop, not because it will be bad, but because the people who wanted it in the first place (PS3, 360 owners) won't get it.

Lightning Returns, I think that has a chance at flopping too. Didn't XIII-2 sell less than half of the first one?

As for Gears, hype for that game is almost non existent. I know a lot of hardcore Gears fans that are disappointed in the fact that you play as Baird, and the game doesn't take place during the Pendulum Wars. I don't hear a lot of excitement for the MP either. The pre order numbers seem pretty bad too, especially for a Gears game. Gears only ranks at #17

Dead Space 3, Metal Gear Rising, Rayman Legends, and The Last of Us will likely sell from decent to A LOT.

-Bayonetta 2 and Metal Gear Rising: Platinum is a respected developer especially in the east. I can guarantee that both games will do extremely well in Japan, also MGR's demo was extremely fun and I for one am picking it up

- Gears of War Judgement: Its gears of war, one of the more successful xbox exclusives... its going to sell

-Rayman: The wiiU's first killer app, a lot of people who own the system are going to buy legends.

- The Last of us:

1) The CE edition sold out in only 2 days
2) People I know who don't like uncharted are super excited for TLOU
3)Its one of the few new IP's I've seen that already have this much hype

Just because a game doesn't sell GTA or COD numbers doesn't mean its a flop

of the list i think gears. dead space and lightning returns will flop. Gears news hasnt really shown up and sometimes i check even though i dont own a 360 it peaks my interest though. As for dead space the demo left a bad taste in my mouth i was going to buy it but not now. Even though im buying lighting returns i doubt it will have fantastic sales. just being realistic.

1. I agree with Bayonetta simply because it's not what the Nintendo audience normally goes for. Look at the best selling 3rd party games on Wii-U.....Yeah not looking good. I wish it the best, because I throughly enjoyed the first game, and I've enjoyed Platinum Games titles, but I don't see it breaking 500,000 in sales. They need to port this over if at all ever possible.

2. Gears of War isn't getting the hype it normally gets, and maybe because people are getting worn out after finishing the trilogy, or because it's not being made by Epic per-say, but it's Gears and Gears sells millions. Not worried about it at all 5+ million easy.

3. Rayman Legends. It's in a better place by being on the Wii-U and that's easily Nintendo's type of game, but I don't think Rayman has the name or audience it once had, and while the game is great (PS3 / PSVita version) I don't see it doing anything huge by coming to the Wii-U. Hope for the best expect the worst.

4. Dead Space 3 has no hype, and it's releasing soon. Not a good look. It's going to sell because of the name alone, but it's not going to be the hit EA wanted.

5. The name Final Fantasy will carry this game alone, no matter how good or how bad it may be.

6. Metal Gear: R / R. This game was only on my radar because it's more Metal Gear, but it's so low on my radar I had poor expectations for it. After playing the demo it seems like it could be a pretty good game, and knowing it's made by Platinum (they are busy bee's over there) I expect a really good action game. That being said, it's just not Metal Gear, but I'm sure Metal Gear fans will eat it up until Ground Zero or Phantom Pain release.

7. Complete disagree with The Last of Us. Sony is pumping everything they have into this game, and it has the hype train express going for it. It's looks great, the acting looks great, the gameplay and trailers have impressed, it's made by Naughty Dog (Easily a top 5 dev. in the industry), and when we get hands on with the demo we'll know for sure. It's going to sell well.

I only agree with Bayonetta, not because WiiU owners won't buy it, but because the install base is not that big yet and other platforms won't have it.

Spin offs from Metal Gear, Gears and Final Fantasy will likely sell less than main games, that's just how it usually is with spin-offs, doesn't necessarily means they will flop, a million copies or so is usually more than enough to turn a profit and the main games in those series are all multi million sellers.

Sequels from Raiman and Dead Space will have little trouble capturing the already hooked user base. They may sell less but, again, the last game in the series already sold very well, they have a good starting point.

The Last Of Us is a new IP so its not easy to predict sales, specially considering its genre (survival horrors aren't exactly the most popular genre out there, still a lot of people love the setting, but those tend to flock to only a few games). Still, it's not short of hype, all presentations so far had been well received and it have the Noughty Dog seal in the front, so I guess it's safe to assume it won't flop. If it will sell just enough to turn a profit or became a blockbuster multi-millions seller will heavily depend on other factors like competition and marketing (like is usually the case for any new IP).

in the case of Bayonetta, an established fan base outside of the console its being exclusively released on.... has a chance to flop, though on that list think its the only one with that chance.

For what folks are saying about Bayonetta, I think that if the game looks incredible (we haven't exactly seen a lot of it) and if the Wii U gets a price drop by the time it releases, I think people will be a little less apprehensive about getting the system for Bayonetta 2.

Not to mention a lot of folks, myself included don't limit ourselves to a single console, just because I loved Bayonetta, admittedly on my friend's 360(due to the better framerates) doesn't mean that I hate Nintendo and will never buy their system. I know not everyone can afford more than one system or has a taste for Nintendo games but the game would've been dead if Nintendo didn't come along and save it anyway. I rather have it exist on the Wii U than have it not exist at all.

the first Bayonetta was a massive flop and it was on 2 consoles (90/100 on Metacritic). Now imagine how much worse it will be on a single platform with a fanbase of less than 5 millions... Or maybe since the Wii U has so few games many people would pick it up like it happened with the first Resistance game.

Lightning Returns will definitely be a flop though. FF13 sold like 7 millions, FF13-2 sold like 2 millions and I only expect FF13-3 to sell much less than that.

There's no way in hell Bayonetta 2 will sell like Bayo1.
It may still sell good but not as much as Bayo1.
No way a game is going to sell on one system the same amount of copies it sold on 2 systems, also...new audience and slim fan-base.

Gears Of War...I'm a PS3 fanboy but I had always dreamed to play the Gears series but I don't think 3 games are worth the purchase of a system.
Said so...it's a shame how this game has very few coverage.
I don't think it will flop at all, though sales could be a bit lower than the previous entries.

Loved the first 2, tried the demo of the 3rd, only in SP and...the game is not good.

My friends who played the first 2 and the demo won't buy it, I will not buy it day one for sure but wait till it reaches the 15-20 € zone.

Lightning Returns...I wonder how many Final Fantasy fans still believe in Square-Enix.
I loved Final Fantasy and couldn't manage to get past the first half of XIII.

Metal Gear Rising, I think it will sell in the area between 750k and 2 millions.
It will flop compared to Metal Gear Solid, but will proudly stand his own.

Rayman Legends...hm...Nintendo fans didn't welcome Origins well on Wii...largest install base, lower number of sold copies...bah.
The point is that for Nintendo fanboys (90% of WiiU early users) platformer=Mario so...I add another bah here.
It won't sell a million copies in the first year for sure, and while it's a good number, it's lower than Publishers expect today.

The Last Of Us...dunno...if I had to throw a Sony title thinking it will sell below expectations I would have mentioned God Of War Ascension.
With The Last Of Us I see players maybe disappointed from the game more than not buying itthe at all.

Here's my take:

Bayonetta 2: Yes, the little audience it once had is no longer there. It being an exclusive means it is going to be really hard to do well on the Wii U alone. Especially considering the Wii U is in it's first year, ergo the user base is smaller.

Dead Space 3: Too many games coming out around the same time, doesn't look as promising as other installments in the series in my opinion.

Gears of War: Judgment: Prequels never do very good. Look at GoW: Ascension. Sure, the game will do well, as will this presumably, but not nearly as well as previous installments. People are tired of the same old same old.

Lighting Returns: FF has taken a turn for the worse recently, enough said.

Metal Gear Rising: Don't know, don't play MG games. From what I've seen around, it just might do alright.

Rayman Legends: The first game underperformed for its quality, and now it's an exclusive. I'm pretty pissed about that, cause I bought it new for my Vita and I love it. My first ever Platinum. Same thing as Bayonetta 2 though, limited audience no longer there, small user base for Wii U.

The Last of Us: Most if not all of my friends are casual gamers. Those who don't have a PS3 want to buy one for this game, those who do are going ape shit for it. I'm loving how it looks so far, I'd say it'll make a good profit.

So TLOU will flop because it wont sell well? Well, the first Uncharted didn't sell well either. And UC2 isnt even the best selling game of the PS3 despit being probably the best one.

Besides, I find it very unlikely for ND to continue TLOU after this game, I think it's a solo game, just like Heavy Rain. They'll be working on UC4 for the PS4 and maybe a new game idea. TLOU was simple something out of the box, Sony gave them space to create something new and they did.

And I'm pretty sure Sony will advertise TLOU really well, I mean, it was super hyped just because ND was developing it, what could be better marketing than that?

Are moms going to buy this for their kids? No. Will the gamer and possible Uncharted player buy this? Hell yes.

Uncharted 1 sold around 4 million copies and uncharted 2 sold around 5 milliom copies. ND games sell well that's a huge reason somy likes them. The last of us will do just fine though.

Well you have to consider the fact that the Uncharted series wouldn't be nearly as big as it is if it weren't for every game being mass bundled (especially UC3) and always having a Q4 launch right in time for the xmas sales.

We know The Last of Us isn't being released Q4 and I doubt it'll be mass bundled with a bigger exclusive game releasing before so I don't think it'll sell nearly as many copies as Uncharted 2/3, but it'll do very well for a new IP. I hope Sony bundle God of War: Ascension and The Last of Us together, that would be an irresistible deal for many people looking to buy a PS3 and would boost the sales for both games a lot.

By the way, I'm not to say that the UC franchise would be small without the mass bundling, it'd still be a decent size like 3.0 - 4.5m per game I reckon and of course ND don't make bad games which exlains why Sony supports them well, even people who don't like the series like myself can admit they are well made (I only liked UC2).

None of these games will flop. The one that stands the most likelihood is, as stated by others, Bayonetta. Simply put: not enough Bayonetta fans have/will have a Wii U, and there won't be enough first-timers willing to try it to make up for that.

None of the others will come close. Even the already-hated LR:XIII will still sell through a few million copies.

Metal Gear Rising - Hated the demo, didn't have fun. Too many games and too little time to waste playing games i'm not enjoying. <--- I understand a lot of people are enjoying the game and that's cool (power to the people yadda yadda) but you don't need to convert me to your opinion. Move along.

Rayman Legends - I haven't played the first one yet but it looks fun. I'll probably play that first before I go ahead and get this one.

Rayman Legends is a day-one buy for me. I love Nintendo's platformers, but Rayman Origins was even better than anything Nintendo has ever done IMHO. The game was so good that I bought it twice so I could play it on both PS3 and Vita - I platinum'd both versions too.

I'll definitely also be buying Bayonetta 2 and The Last Of Us, and probably Dead Space 3 too.

Bayonetta 2 won't be considered a flop after the other two systems get their release of it. You know it's going to happen. Don't be naive.

Lightning Returns probably won't do so hot either. Final Fantasy doesn't have that same following or anticipation it once had. There's still people that want Final Fantasy but many of those people don't seem to want these Final Fantasy games.

Gears of War Judgement doesn't seem to have that same flare either. I doubt it will flop but sales probably won't be the same as earlier titles.

Dead Space 3, TLOU, & Metal Gear Rising will probably do fine. All three of those still have that following and anticipation. While some fans of Dead Space have dropped off, others have joined up. TLOU is already doing fine during the preorder phase so sales at and after launch should be good. Metal Gear is a Metal Gear game. That by itself will move it. People love their Metal Gear.

Rayman's a bit of a touch and go for me. It might do ok, it might not. I doubt it'll flop but I don't think it'll be a fantastic seller either.

Okay I know people will argue against it but the guy does have a point about Bayonetta 2 and Rayman.These companies took a big risk putting these games only on the Wii U especially since the fans of it are on the PS3,Xbox 360 and PC. To make it worse these games did not attract many people to them plus Nintendo's fanbase is mostly made up of casuals and fanboys who won't be going for games like Bayonetta or won't be choosing Rayman over Mario games.No matter how much you get angry or protest the risk is still there.Them searching for a new fanbases for Bayonetta and Rayman could completely backfire because they are expecting people to buy a Wii U to play it or that original fans to flock to it on a new system when they could just decide that buying a Wii U to play these games is not worth it. So there is a chance the gamble will work or it could completely backfire and they get even less people to buy them this time. So I am certain the games won't flop as being good games,as I am a fan of Rayman myself, but just the fact that no one will really want them this time either and they won't have either the old fans to fall back on or any new ones.Of course I could be wrong.We will just have to see.

Bayonetta 2 probably will flop. I agree nintendo never do a good job marketing these type of games. They advertise the hell out of the family oriented games but games likes bayonetta 2. They're doing the same thing they did with the wii. Marketing it as a kiddy console. I walked into a gamestop one time and my eye just happened catched the boxart of a guilty gear game to my surprise on the wii. Next to it Mortal Kombat on the wii. call of Duty 4 modern warfare, Moder warfare 2, Black ops and modern warfare 3 all available on the wii but not one ad for these games anywhere. Even black ops 2 when was the last time anybody seen ad for that game on the wii u. The other games will be fine it's nintendos marketing that will kill bayonetta.
