Criterion Creative Director Hints At Burnout Paradise 2

"Criterion Games have been busy taking EA's Need for Speed series in new directions over the past few years, but a new tweet from Criterion's Creative Director Alex Ward suggest that the Guildford-based company might be heading back toward their Burnourt series." (Burnout Paradise 2, Next-Gen, PC, PS3, Wii U, Xbox 360)

Why? NFS:MW was essentially Burnout Paradise 2! I wish Criterion would go back to its Burnout roots and make a nice looking, 60fps Burnout, similarly to Burnout Revenge on Xbox 360. I guess these companies prefer graphics over solid performance and gameplay. What a shame, I still play Burnout Revenge because of the awesome gameplay and solid 60fps it has.
Burnout Paradise runs @ 60fps, and it looks rather nice too. But I do miss the closed tracks, with crazy layouts, designed specifically for maximum fun, instead of a succession of 90º turns. Burnout Paradise was great, Burnout 3 was better!

I really prefer closed tracks as well for the reasons you stated. Tracks specifically designed for fun racing rather than a dull open world is so much more enjoyable in my opinion.

Personally though I feel that the series peaked with Burnout Revenge, since I had so much fun with that game compared to the previous three and Paradise. I'd much rather see Burnout Revenge 2 than a sequel to Paradise.

Most wanted was a trail run for their next Burnout title. Just as Medal of Honor had a few features that moved over to Battlefield 3. MW will have some of that move over to BP2 as well.

I do wonder if its going to be Next-Generation Burnout? :P

Sorry MW is not like burnout. I thought it was going to be which is why I bought it, and I loved the old most wanted but its not like burnout. And it lost a lot of the old most wanted IMO but that's a different story. Burnout is just full on arcade and mental. I still play it now, almost every time I use my ps3.

I think with Paradise 2, if they could mix the open world of paradise with the perfect races from burnout 3, then it would be the best burnout ever. Some people seem to gripe about open world but I wouldn't have it any other way now. There's few things I enjoy more in gaming now then racing around paradise city and doing the online challenges with other people. Burnout paradise as a whole is the best burnout so far I think, though the racing was better in burnout 3. Bring on paradise 2 though

I actually don't care if it's open world or not, and honestly, seeing the amount of linear, "burnout like" games release and crash and burn in the last few years, doesn't inspire much confidence for any studio to man up and make a straight up linear racer again.

also 60 fps .

the best thing about burnout paradise was the framereate. don't fuck it up criterion.

oh and go back to paradise handling. not hot pirsuit, slow as fuck, boat handling .

Please be true. It's been entirely too long without a new burnout.

If they're going to go back to Burnout, make it more like Burnout 3 or Revenge. If they're going to make Burnout Paradise 2, might as well continue working on the NFS franchise, as the two are becoming quite similar nowadays.

And please bring back traffic attack.
fei-hung  +   985d ago
Yes! Thank you. Not open word world, but hardcore arcade racing where you race on a track and concentrate on dodging traffic, racing on oncoming traffic, taking out rivals, drifting like a biznitch and the occasional short cut / ramp / alt route.

The open world can be there as a hub, but the races don't need to be open, they need to be what they were last gen; pure, focused, adrenaline packed races testing your reflexes, drifting skills and the size of your balls, not ure navigation skills.

Burnout Paradise sucked pretty bad, but I used to play that game every day when it came out. Can't wait to play the second release, since Paradise was great :).

They could re-release Burnout Paradise and slap a 2 on there and I would buy it day 1. I absolutely loved the first one and still play it to this day
