DmC Devil May Cry May Have Failed To Attract Casual Fans In Japan

Siliconera - DmC Devil May Cry was released in Japan last week and sold 110,429 copies on the PlayStation 3. The Xbox 360 version of the game wasn’t featured in the top-20 sales ranking, but sales tracker, Media Create, report that it sold approximately 6,000 copies. (DmC: Devil May Cry, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)

I think it is the other way around, the hardcore are giving this a pass, my 10 year old nephew is bragging to me he finished the game 3 times already, and he only barely finished just 2 games before that.

Makes sense since this is a causal game. I am see people who are bad Horrible at the game beat son of sparda in one sitting...

You let a 10 year old play a game with a butt naked emo guy with a potty mouth and with a brother that kills pregnant women?
jhonka  +   914d ago
I think I was that same age when I played the original DMC. Plus, I think DmC's still better than letting a kid play Grand Theft Auto.

To be fair, it's newmonday's nephew so he/she probably doesn't have a lot of say when it comes to what games the parents buy for their kid.
NewMonday  +   914d ago
I warned his parents many times but they don't care, they say it is not my business.

I lol hard at 6000 copies for the 360. Not bashing the 360 or anything though but CoD sell a lot more on 360 there than this and Japanese aren't even interested in FPS to begin with!

It's an ok game. Just not the DMC game I wanted to play. If they continue with this version of Dante I probably won't play Devil May Cry ever again.
Kyosuke_Sanada  +   914d ago
It's a reason why they have classic Dante on Project X Zone....
yami930  +   914d ago
Which makes me confused as to why that game can have classic Dante and not Playstation All Stars

Casual? I didn't find anything "casual" about the demo.
sdozzo  +   914d ago
Nothing casual about $60. In three weeks you can buy it for $40. Honestly, sometimes it's hard to cough up sixty for twelve hours or whatever.

Someone brought up a good argument that the reason 4 did so well in Japan was because it really appealed to the female market with them pretty boys Nero and Dante. One quick glance at Deviantart can attest to that. Still, the whole point of this reboot was supposed to appeal to western markets anyway, not really surprised Japan didn't take to it.

Can anyone name a game made by a western developer that flew off the shelves in Japan? Serious question.

i may be wrong but wasnt crash bandicoot huge in japan, i mean he was in commercials, had his own freakin theme song, he was big over there until wrath of cortex.

No never. Not even halo ether. Actually DmC sold more than halo. Selling 100,000 western game in japan is great numbers actually. Can't think of any western game that got over that and made it to the #1 spot.
chrissx  +   914d ago
The fact that it was done by westerners alone guarantees it will hardly have japanese fans. What else do u expect?
Samuel-Rodrigues  +   913d ago
Yeah as much as i enjoyed playing this, it never really challenged me, it felt like DMC 2 all over again, even on dante must die im breezing through.
Although i must say that the witches can be quite a challenge on higher difficulty's, but that's about it.
