XCOM: In Remembrance of Col. Gabriel “Psycho” Pena

XCOM: Enemy Unknown makes gamers care a lot about make-believe soldiers. (Culture, PC, XCOM: Enemy Unknown)

Seriously. Few things in gaming suck more than raising up your soldier from grunt to Colonel, all of the perks you gain, all of the missions and kills you wrack up with them, only for them to be killed and be gone. Forever. Same with Fire Emblem, Valkyria Chronicles, etc. It SUCKS to have to deal with that type of in game loss, but it's such a crucial part to what makes these games so awesome.

Really?

I figured most gamers just re-load their saves and try again when something like that happens. A Pyrrhic victory is no victory at all.

I do that. You pretty much have to do that. But if you are playing on a high enough difficulty, sometimes the only way to pass a scenario is to take losses. Sometimes, it's just going to happen, no matter what you do.
