Visceral: Dead Space 3's 'roller coaster' pacing keeps scary moments scarier

According to Senior Producer David Woldman, Dead Space 3's greater focus on action won't overshadow the franchise's trademark horror. (Dead Space 3, Dev, EA, PC, PS3, Visceral games, Xbox 360)

I'll believe it when I see it.

I don't know, rollercoaster pacing has never seemed to help horror for me. I like it slow and foreboding.

I think they mean to say that they will stand out more among all the action-oriented parts.

This is all I have seen. They added Co-Op? OMG! WHAT!? They killed the game with having Co-Op! Stupid!! (But its optional.... you dont have to play with a partner.) Im not buying this game because it has Co-Op!

Seriously their are to many whiners nowadays. Thats all I have seen over this game. No "real" issues like why can we only have 2 guns in this game? And they switched the button lay out again on us! (I believe) The scare/horror factor is still their folks! Stop thinking about the things that are useless to cry about and look at the real picture.

well after playing the demo it is clear the game environments were designed with two players in mind first.

The WHOLE game is designed around two players first and THEN made playable as a single player.

Look at all the open space. Are there even ANY claustrophobic hallways or vents that Isaac has to crawl through? Every area of DS3 MUST be designed as if two players are present, even if I play alone.

This whole "Co-op is optional" is complete BS. The Co-op has invaded the single player by way of design regardless if a second player is present or not.

DS3 can be jettisoned into the darkness for all I care. Co-op ruined everything that made the first two games great single player experiences. Yes, I am NOT buying this game because it has Co-op.

Couldn't agree more.

Co-op has shit all over this game...

Baseless accusations over a 15 minute demo. Stop whining. Lets be honest, you didnt need a demo. When you heard coop, your mind was made up. So-called gamers like you ruin the experience before you try it. Just like RE6, luckily you will be the vocal minority. Dead Space 3 looks amazing and will sale well. Lets all focus on coop, and forget how awesome it is that you can combine two weapons in one. Machine gun+Line gun FTW.

Guess what? Putting co-op in a horror game takes away from the main objective of the genre - BEING SCARED.

I don't know about any of you, but when I have buddies around and we're playing horror games it's not the least bit intimidating. Playing Amnesia in the dark, with headphones, and not a soul around, though...that's frightening.

Curse the fools who think everything is better with co-op.
hellvaguy  +   447d ago
So you do know co-op is optional. So those tears were all for nothing, when you select wait for it......to not do co-op.

These are very complex and difficult choices we have to make in this day and age. To cry or to not cry.
Ser  +   447d ago
Who's crying? You should stop taking it so personally when people have a difference of opinion, you'll live longer.

You're a bit naive if you actually think the game was designed around singleplayer mode while co-op mode was just tacked on for replay value. It's the opposite, and we all know it. Games with co-op modes require larger areas and new mechanics. Either both modes will suck due to lack of diligence, or the singleplayer will suck because they focused too much on making co-op viable.

You can't have the trademark claustrophobic environments of the previous Dead Space titles when you need room for two bumbling space marines constantly. How are we going to climb through vents or walk past monster closets at the same time? Answer: you won't.

Also, nice job ignoring the fact that playing a horror game with another person lessens the actual "horror". Way to bring up actual points, bro.

These are the same people that touted that the demo was scary? Just comparing Dead Space 1's and 2's demo is much more tense/scarier feel.

^You forgot that they crapped on the lore of the series. Necromorphs are suppose to be hard to impossible to kill with bullets but in the demo our main gun were bullets. So all that story about the necros slaughtering the marines and making them far superior to humans are just BS now. The whole point was that Isaac was using engineer/miner weapons to combat the necromorphs, which is why he was much more successful in dispatching them compared to the people in the colonies and ships.

The two guns, bullet damage, necromorphs with guns, fist bumping moments with Carver, invisible guns, cinematic teleporting (Isaac being far but the scene was trigger so he teleports to the scene), cuts and bruises and fatigue disappear after a change of armor, etc.

Wow. You clearly need to replay 1 and 2. The average soldier couldnt kill Necrmorphs because they were shooting at their body which had a strong exoskeleton. The trick was destroying the limbs because they were the weak areas. Issac used engineer lasers because hes an engineer. Thats all he could get ahold of. There is no mention anywhere of bullets not working, and only engineering lasers. Know what your talking about first, before you comment. Once again N4G users show why they arent taken seriously
ThanatosDMC  +   447d ago
Here i state the lore based on the books, movies, and the past two games. You clearly didnt read what I wrote.

"Once again N4G users show why they arent taken seriously"

Bullets did not work. Read it yourself.

Just played the demo. It wasn't scary. At all. Not one bit.
hellvaguy  +   447d ago
Maybe it was cause you were 11 when you played the first two. Now your a mature 14 and it takes a bit more to wet your panties over a game. Ya?
