Mature gaming, sexual abuse and Lara Croft

XbigyGames Writes: Leading up to the release of Tomb Raider I’ve felt a need to write an article about the ‘rape issue’ with Square Enix representatives and Kotaku. If you do not already know, back in June Tomb Raider’s Executive Producer Mark Rosenburg said that some men, “try to rape” Lara after she is taken captive. This was met with outcry from the public and press stating that the game was sick and that these issues were best left outside of the gaming hemisphere. (PC, PS3, Square Enix, Tomb Raider, Xbox 360)

First thing i did playing the original Tomb Raider was break Lara's neck. I went up to the 2nd floor of her mansion gym and hit a button. She did a backflip, fell, and snap. Later I had trouble with getting my guns out and aiming at bats before they wounded me. Then I drowned her while swimming. While other people were noting how cool it looked when she pulled herself up a ledge, I was accidently killing her over and over again in stupid ways while trying to learn the game, and not feeling very good about it.

So Lara has been all about horrible gruesome fatal injuries and morbid fear of failure for me since the very beginning.
