Vigil Had Hoped to Make Darksiders III

OnlySP writes: Sigh, today’s a rather gloomy day in the gaming industry. Long time publisher THQ has been shut down, its assets sold and auctioned off to all new publishers, but one, one very important developer was left behind to die with THQ. Vigil Games. (PC, PS3, Vigil Games, Xbox 360)

who you guys think should buy it ?!
PockyKing  +   120d ago
Keep changing my mind on this ha. Can't decide who I'd like the IP to go to, I just hope there's another Darksiders sequel some day because really enjoyed Darksiders II.

I don't care, as long as they stay true to the style and gameplay that Darksiders has already.
WildArmed  +   119d ago
Likewise, I was hoping Vigil would be kept on for Darksiders. It is their child after all, it's hard to establish a new IP this gen. Not to mention a H&S RPG IP.
showtimefolks  +   120d ago
i see one of the console makers buying this. i hope its sony but i doubt it
LOGICWINS  +   120d ago
Actually, I can see Sony being interested in buying it.
sinncross  +   120d ago
I would personally be ok with Sony and incorporating them into SCEA. Working alongside the likes of Naughty Dog, Santa Monica etc would be great for everyone.

I think the sort of expertise Vigil can bring to the table will in fact expand Sony's American division as opposed to Vigil being eaten up.
stragomccloud  +   120d ago
Even Sony's devs don't really work together though.
stragomccloud  +   120d ago
I can't believe I got so many disagrees. It's true though. Despite all being under Sony, their developers more or less work independently. They are also given an enormous amount of freedom which is why the games lineup is so diverse.
rdgneoz3  +   120d ago
@stragomccloud Look at the credits for some Sony games, you'll see several other Sony devs and a few other devs listed. They may do their own thing, but they helped each other out at times with concepts or different tech ideas.

Sad...saaad news
I guess this is one of them moments in life that just sucks. I was really hoping for someone to pick up the Darksiders IP from THQ...even if that someone were EA.

I loved the first Darksiders (War was awesomely badass) and hoped for a sequel. Darksiders 2 came along and it was also awesome...can I hope for a third one...please??

I'm more disappointed about the Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium that they were working on being lost :<
Roccetarius  +   119d ago
Platinum Games would be the only ones to do it justice. No exclusive company should buy this, that means Nintendo, MS and Sony.

It should be available to all.

Personally i liked the first game better, because i didn't like some of the features DS2 had.

In all fairness, I really thought Warner Bros. would be a great fit for Darksiders.
isarai  +   120d ago
Yeah, now that i think about it this would be a damn fine fit. I think Square might be a good canidadate aswell though, they've been doing a pretty good job as a publisher lately

4 player co-op...SOMEONE BUY THEM RIGHT NAAAAAOOOOW!!!

I'm sorry but Darksiders is definitely not the kind of game where multiplayer may work.
egidem  +   120d ago
As much as multiplayer is the norm these days, there are some games that are just better left off as single player games and lose some balance the moment multiplayer is introduced e.g.: Dead Space franchise.

I'd rather have Darksiders remaing single player instead.
da_2pacalypse  +   120d ago
I'd buy it. I'd buy 10 copies if they announced it right now.
MattyG  +   120d ago
Platinum games said they'd buy it for the right price.
DasBunker  +   120d ago
I read that with the RE merchants voice.
supersonicjerry  +   120d ago
Didn't like number 2 liked the first one a lot better.
The Great Melon  +   120d ago
This just makes me terribly sad. Out of all the properties that THQ had Darksiders resonated with me the most. I really hope that something transpires and Vigil Games won't disband as their games are truly enjoyable.

They'll probably show up again with an indie studio, make a game for Sony or someone like that and get bought. For now it sucks but that team was clearly talented, they'll have work.

Vigil Wanted To Make Darksiders 3?
You mean instead of being fired? Yeah, Im gonna just leave this here.

I hope they are able to make two more... Complete the four horseman.
Y_5150  +   120d ago
I remember when they said before the first one release. They said they want to make a game dedicated to each of the four hoarsemen. I still havn't been interested enough to buy it but thanks to PS+ i'll see how the series plays like.
showtimefolks  +   120d ago
if there is a darksiders 3 i see them including the last 2 horsemen into one game to finish off the story, unless they are bought by a talent publisher who lets them do the kind of game they want.

i said it before and i will say it again VG working alongside SM studio who do God of war games could be a killer idea

none of the THQ IP's really went for what i thought they would go for, everything was sold pretty cheaply and that's why i am surprised to see neither EA or activision have any part in the auction.

also Capcom could bought few

i think VG will be sold pretty quick too maybe within next 48-72 hrs. no inside news just the feeling i have as a gamer
DasBunker  +   120d ago
That sucks, i loved Darksiders and was looking forward to playing DII at some point.

It would be a Great Nintendo Pick-up and the Vigil president is a Nintendo "fan".

I know Darksiders is not Zelda but it could satiate some of the maturer fans during the long waits for New Zelda.

It would also give Nintendo a God of War style game.
DragonKnight  +   120d ago
No. Bayonetta already went Wii U exclusive, no one wants the same for Darksiders.
CouldHaveYelledUiiW  +   120d ago
Lol,
Bubble-up "Funny"

I guess it's like me liking and "hating" Sony for having the sense to buy Quantic Dream.

But Better that then have another good gaming company die.

If Sony and Microsoft pick-up Darksiders I would both respect and "hate" it, but I would rather Nintendo do it.

I'd rather a 3rd party company pick up Vigil. Darksiders is the kind of game that wouldn't seem right to have exclusive to one console.
CouldHaveYelledUiiW  +   120d ago
I see your point -
-And I am happy either as a Nintendo Exclusive or Port-

But better it be an exclusive (for some console) than non-existent.
CouldHaveYelledUiiW  +   118d ago
I think Vigil wants to go to Nintendo- they just released this...

Meh, both darksiders games wore out their welcomes pretty quickly for me. They weren't terrible, but not anything I'll cry over.
ThatsGaming  +   120d ago
This is sad. I really enjoyed both Darksiders games...

I would've thought that this series would be a good fit for Warner Brothers as the series is large and deep enough to also become a series of movies.

RIP Vigil.
ceballos77mx  +   120d ago
Maybe one of the big 3 is planning on buying them, but keeping it quiet until its complete.
iMaim  +   120d ago
not sony or microsoft please.
theres no point keeping such a great series exclusive to a platform.
black911  +   120d ago
Sony buy them!
Adolph Fitler  +   120d ago
One of my mates loved the 1st game & when I informed him they were making a sequel he kept asking, "when DS2 coming out"?. I would tell him every updated release date I had. Anyhow, release day comes around & he just shrugs & says, "I'll get it when it goes cheaper".
This fake ass gamer played & finished the 1st one FAST, he raved about it to anyone who would listen. I mean, it is one of the few PS3 games he's not only played, but finished (I think Unchartered 1 & 2 are THE ONLY others,.....he only has 4-5 games, & by far Darksiders is the only game I've heard him carry on about since DMC on PS2. He seriously hasn't really shown any excitement for ANY game, but Darksiders since the PS2 classic forementioned, yet, the sequel drops & he still doesn't have the damn thing.

I'm more of a GOW fan, as I find the polish, overall design, story, graphics, gameplay, action setpieces, & pretty much every aspect of Sony's franchise kicks all other similar genres a$$es, but I really like Darksiders also, as I'm a serious gamer & I support EVERY developer I like, from the day they release there titles, & also any games that take my interest from any developer, if the game is decent to great. I find it funny that the self proclaimed, hugest Darksiders fan, fails the games developers by not supporting there game on day 1.....hell, he doesn't buy F.A. games anyway, I have hundreds, & really could, no should, stop buying further games & finish some of the hundreds I've already got, yet, I bought Darksiders 2 on day 1......& every great game since.
Adolph Fitler  +   120d ago
So, people like my mate have failed the very developers he's supposed to worship as making the best game of this generation (& yes, this dillusional friend does think Darksiders to be game of the gen). Don't get me wrong, I loved Darksiders, still have my copy of pt.1 & 2, & think Vigil games are awesome, & would have loved at least 2 more games in the series.....but, I am a gamer, & a realistic one, & Darksiders is not even within the top 10 best games of this gen., & I am a huge fan of the series & loved the 1st. But GOW3, GOW:Collection 1&2, Ninja Gaiden 1&2, DmC, Bayonetta are superior offerings in that adventure hack'n'slasher genre alone......then factor in games like Dishonered, Gears, Unchartered, Mortal Kombat, SFIV, Rayman, LBP1&2, COD4 & WAW, Far Cry 3, Killzone 2&3, Mass Effect 1-3, Halo4, Borderlands 1&2, & many, many others are superior accomplishments better games than the awesome Darksiders games. So, that says a lot about how great these other games are....I mean, Skyrim is another, & I'm forgetting a bunch more....Heavenly Sword, Enslaved, Vanquish, NFS:HP& MW, Forza, GT, GTA4, & the list goes on.
And to make matters worse, my mate is a huge nerd for anything SciFi, & I have told him & told him about the ME series & how awesome the story & overall game is (& I'm not a HUGE SciFi fan, I mean, Predator, Aliens, Total Recall, Terminator, & such are some of my most favorite films of all time, but I don't go gaga for SciFi stuff, as evidenced by my disdain for Cameron's overated crap with the huge budget & oversized smurfs) but my mate has all the Stargate series & loves that D grade crap, yep, he claims he's big for Sci Fi, yet he hasn't even heard of the Mass Effect series, let alone knows how great it is.
I mean, it's frustrating, as he is a prime example of what is wrong with casuals, as he won't even support a developer he rates as the best this gen. has had to offer, & he, along with other casuals that are too scared to give something other than Fifa, Madden or COD a try, have helped send these poor bastards broke & jobless.

As I've said in many-er posts before, casual fools ensure the success of games like 50cent:Bulletproof, while actual good games, like Ico, SOTC, BG&E, Psychonauts, Okami & plenty more, are ignored & avoided by moronic casuals, like the plague. Sad, sad world we live.

@black911, as unlikely as that is, it would be a dream come true for Vigil to get another chance, & be teamed up with one of the best developers going in Santa Monica, as they would learn about polish & have far bigger budgets & production values, & I truly believe it would be awesome for both teams, & for future GOW's & Darksiders, as Vigil could help Santa Monica add certain elements, such as clever puzzles to name 1, & vice versa.
It would be awesome to see Darksiders 3 on PS Orbis, under the Sony label, & with good marketing, as well as Darksiders 1&2 included on the disk (with next gen visual enhancements), wow, that would be a dream come true. Especially knowing that Darksiders 3 had Santa Monica's input, to improve the fundamentals, such as combat, level design, character design (as Darksiders biggest fault was the poor enemy design, as none really stand out & stick in your mind after you've finished the game, whereas, GOW has awesome enemy design).
Nice dream, but obviously too late, all over & R.I.P. Vigil.

I'd buy it.
Tzunoy  +   119d ago
Anyone besides Activision. I prefer Microsoft.
ZeroChaos  +   119d ago
This may sound stupid, but what is the chances that a fan could buy the IP?
Norrison  +   119d ago
Really really low. The fan would need a small team at least and a lot of money
crowsticky1234  +   119d ago
Bethesda should take Darksiders while Sony should take Saints Row.
Soldierone  +   119d ago
I don't understand how no one bid on them. Was there a minimum on them?

I mean Crytek got Homefront for 500k, and Ubisoft got one of their low ball bids through at THQ Montreal for a few million.

Turtle Rock was in the running for their own game at 200k so why didn't Vigil bid on themselves to bring it elsewhere? EA and WB showed interest, but left with nothing, not even a bid on a marketable game?

It just doesn't make sense to me. A lot of smaller assets THQ has went no where, but Darksiders can still expand and do something.... maybe because it wasn't a copy and paste FPS....
