Its not that my "Nostalgia Button" is broken, but rather that Square's gone in a different direction than I had hoped. Instead of further developing the over-world, character introduction and growth, story, they've gone towards pure glitz. Don't even think about story but rather getting games out on a regular if not yearly basis to exploit the brand.

Though apparently some like that last bit. Don't think about it.

Really. game companies should not be "given" loyalty. Brand loyalty should be earned title to title with complaints raised at a below-par flub. Gamers should not buy everything made, defending the company when they do bad and especially when it exploits. Doing so only tells them that they can. That no matter what they do they'll always be some sucker supporting them.

I will continue to support Square with their FF franchise except the MMO's.Out of all the FF games I've played FF-XIII-2 is my least interesting FF,FF-X & XIII are my favorites & I've played them all.My gripe with Square is the fact that they're taking too long to develop & put games out to play, this generation only FF-XIII with 3 parts, not counting FF-XIV,they use to put out at least 3 different FF each console life.I like the FF character Lightning but it seems the people at Square are fixated on this character as if she was a real goddess or some kind of Muse.Square seems to be making bad business decisions this generation when it comes to their JRPG development.

I find his comments around how Balan turned out to be very insightful as to why the game is trash. He basically apologises for its existence

solideagle13d ago

can you please give some of us who don't know anything about this, a summary of what happened?

Chocoburger13d ago

Balan was knowingly rushed out by S-E, it had an extremely short dev cycle and was fairly low budget.
Naka was the game's director until near the end when he was fired or perhaps he quit, I forgot.

carrotcakeag12d ago

@Chocoburger Yeah they did fire and replace him which caused him to unload a bunch of rants about the company. The project only existed because of Naka in the first place, he convinced Square to give him one shot at making a platformer. They gave him an opportunity but pulled the rug out before he was done for reasons not explained.

Hopefully they don’t. From this it doesn’t sound like that is the case and development is just taking too long.
