Koch Media responds to Saints Row, Metro, and Volition acquisition

GameZone writes, "Koch Media has formally announced the acquisition of intellectual property rights for Metro and Saints Row -- two of THQ's most beloved and successful franchises. Koch Media, the owner of Dead Island publisher Deep Silver, also acquired Volition, the Chicago-based studio responsible for the development of Saints Row and Red Faction. As part of the announcement, the company confirmed that Deep Silver will lead "all further development and marketing" on the Saints Row and Metro franchises." (Industry, PC, PS3, Saints Row, Saints Row 4, Saints Row: The Third, THQ, Xbox 360)

Really dont know about them the games they have published so far have been mediocre at best including dead island.

I just hope they play the publisher role and don't get in the way of development of Metro & Saints Row games

This is true, but Dead Island is pretty good though. All publishers have to start somewhere and that means publishing anything that they can regardless of the quality.

By purchasing Volition and Metro, this shows that they want to start publishing quality titles. These games could bring in an influx of revenue for the company and could allow them to create new studios, publish more things, etc. Just by outbidding Ubisoft by over 15 million shows that they are devoted.

R.I.P. Saints Row :(

"As part of the announcement, the company confirmed that Deep Silver will lead "all further development and marketing" on the Saints Row and Metro franchises. As a fan of those franchises, this worries me -- especially on the heels of the recent Dead Island Riptide Zombie Bait debacle which saw a bloodied, limbless female torso as a collectible bonus. I can only imagine -- and shudder -- with an idea of what they might have in store for Saints Row 4."

"Koch Media and Deep Silver will detail future plans for reach franchise "in the coming months." Until then, we hold our breath and anxiously await. The rest of THQ's assets have been auctioned off and purchased be other companies, which you can learn more about here."

Wait what? Does this mean no Metro in march?

Well in fairness to Deep Silver's marketing sins, THQ already kind of went 'giant purple dildo bat' and 'evil kitty cat's underground snuff cable-access tv show' with the marketing of Saint's Row and the name of the proposed stand alone expansion was Enter the Dominatrix. THQ was no paragon of good marketing taste.

Their response: "F*ck yeah moneys going to start rolling in".

Off Topic - Dead Island sucked.

Edit - Lol @ the quote in the article - "Deep Silver is perfectly positioned to lead these brands...straight into the ground".

Yeah I added the last little bit but that's what came into my mind when I read it LOL.

What are you talking about? "Straight into the ground???"
Riderz1337  +   604d ago
Meaning they will kill the series...I added it as a joke, I even said I added it.

If they make Volition make the next saints row awesome like SR2 was then in my opinion this purchase will be a huge success. The third was the massive disappointment. SR is one of my favorite series of all time and the third was my most anticipated game ever at that particular moment. It was such a huge letdown. The craziness of the game got bland and repetitive pretty quickly. All I want is for Volition to go back to franchises roots by actually having a somewhat serious story

Question is are they going to allow Volition to continue to make Saints Row the way they have done or are they going to screw it up. Cause as a franchise consumer of SR i want to know .

@FarCryLover182 Here's hoping they like SR the way it is & change nothing about it.

Well, they don't create that game, that is Techland. It was always Techland's vision and they just publish it.

I don't think Deep Silver will make them do SR anyway other than their own way.... I hope.

Totally forgot they had the balls to release the Zombie torso, perhaps Saints Row will be fine after all :P

At least it didn't end up on a PR serving publisher like EA or Acti, then all the over the top mayhem would have been lost. At least there is slight hope here.

I'm curious about Metro though. WB would have been good for that, but what about the small studio making it?

Soooo...did they get Red Faction too?
ironfist92  +   604d ago
THQ said they canned the Red Faction series, but since Volition made the games and THQ is selling off its assets, Koch has the ability to bring Red Faction back

Im worried about future Saints Row and Metro games however...

Please do a sequel to Red faction Guerilla.....armageddon doesn't count.
T-What  +   604d ago
I am please but like everyone else I am skeptical and a little worried, I hold back all judgments until I see what they can do, Dead Island was nothing special but was a enjoyable game and if they keep the original employes of Volition I think everything will be fine. I also hope for a new Red Faction and maybe even a new Summoner game:)
DFresh  +   604d ago
I'm hoping Red Faction series goes back to its roots of being a 1st person shooter only with an expanded story line (Picking up where Red Faction 2 finished.)/characters/location s (Other then just Mars.).
Deep Silver has been a surprising developer lately with the series Dead Island hopefully they take care of the series this new firm puts them in charge of.

Since Volition is still intact I am not too worried about Saints Row.

I am assuming Geomod went with Volition and the Red Faction license. I really hope to see it used again, if not in RF then something else.
