Who’s the Better Explorer; Lara Croft or Nathan Drake?
Both characters show more than potential when it comes to both exploring and surviving. From being brought in different worlds, with different genders and different ideas; which explorer is better at their job?
(Culture, PC, PS3, Tomb Raider, Uncharted Trilogy, Xbox 360)
Might be an age old question but the only correct answer is Lara Croft. She’s flawless in her adventuring skills previous to upcoming release) while Drake will make mistakes.
This is about who's the better explorer, not who you like more or which series you like better. I like Nathan Drake's character more but Lara is definitely more of an explorer. The Uncharted series is much more linear, and that isn't a bad thing.
I often wonder if people are more likely to choose an exclusive title over a multiplat no matter what the context is.
On-topic: This is a tough one. What I would like to see is some kind of crossover between the two. And I mean the OG Lara not the OMG-you're-an-explorer-and -you-can't-****in-swim!? Lara.
I love Lara I really do but I'm not just going to say her because of nostalgia reasons or because she came first.
Drake is funny, witty and is a likable character. Lara really hasn't been given much character development other then her shown to be smart and sensible when it comes to situations
What does that have to do with exploration though? Lara Croft excels in exploration where Nathan Drake kind of just stumbles upon what he's looking for. Lara Croft is smarter, more cunning, and she handles herself better in situations when exploration is in effect. She's a survivor and Drake is just a hood rat compared to her. I love both of the characters though.
coming from someone that has played both series i gotta say lara croft, she has the skills, the tech, of course she just like drake has the knowledge, and she has more money which opens up the possibilty to get contacts that can inform her about certain artifacts, shes gone up against more mythological creatures, and she has found more mythological artifacts and typically she never needs help, shes a one woman army.
Tomb Raider invented platforming and treasure hunting? More Indy than anything else, which hasn't been turned into an Uncharted type game, by the way. Don't give up, Wii U!
Uncharted is an evolution of the Tomb Raider template and it's pretty clear to see. But there were games before Tomb Raider as well. Pitfall springs to mind. And there were games before Pitfall, an so on.
Neither Uncharted nor Tomb Raider are totally unique, original ideas.
Nathan Drake by a mile. Lets be honest , females aren't as strong or smart as males. I'm not being sexist , it's a scientific fact. Drake is a witty and charming guy and an extremely believable video game character. Croft is nothing but a pair of breast. Don't get me wrong , I like to look at her but I'd rather have Nathan by my side in an adventure. Drake even bests Indiana Jones due to the fact that he will never age.
Have you even played a single Tomb Raider game? Because it doesn't sound like you have from your ignorant comments. Not being mean by the way, I'm only saying that because it seems like you don't have a clue as to who Lara Croft is as a person and what she's been through in her "life" that makes her who she is. She has much more of a defining history than Nathan Drake does, who we virtually know nothing about at all. Lara Croft is a consummate treasure hunter and explorer and Drake is almost always in it for the money only while Lara Croft already has money and doesn't care for more of it. She's not that type of person.
Drake's just a more likeable guy. And if Lara and Drake both fought even though Drake make's mistakes he get's out of some of the most difficult situations. So I think there both equal. Also i'd love to see a cameo of one of them in each other's game
More gamers found Nathan Drake this gen than Laura Croft if that says anything. But Nathan (ND) could learn from the earlier Tomb Raider games by implementing a more open world and gadgets.
Neither is better. Lara is simply a less realistic depiction of what someone like her and Drake would really go through if they were in such dangerous situations. You don't think last gen James Bond is better then modern James Bond because he doesn't do everything perfectly and his plans go awry and he makes mistakes do you? New James Bond is no better or worse then last gen James Bond but they are just a product of their generation.
You would never see Lara get as torn up or as damaged as Drake does because she was a woman in older games made before people decided that they should get the same treatment as guys do.Drake gets winded and stumbles and badly hurt because that is what would happen when you face off against savage monsters, walk through snow and ice and hot deserts, get shot at by automatic weapons and blown up. Drake I am sure has explored and visited just as many location and found as many treasures as Lara has, even more if you count the stuff he finds on the way. So in short Lara is just unrealistically good while Drake is equally as good just more realistically. The fact that Lara could just take on a bunch of creatures and giant stone monsters with just a pair of pistols without getting scratch or coming out all bruised and battered or breaking sweat makes no sense. At least when Drake climbed out of the train he stumbled along half dead bleeding out.Lara would probably have just walked out of the broken train without so much as a limp.

Pittfall Harry is the best cause he's the one Drake and Lara are created after.
