Answer :
Yes, similar to the Motorstorm bundle, the new MGS4 bundle features an 80GB PS3 with some PS2 backwards compatibility.

This was the biggest question people had with the PS3. Is good to see Sony bringing this back. Now people can finally shut up about the whole BC nonsense.

is it still software emulation?

Anf what the funk happened to 120 gb ;0

The 120GB was never to be. They were all just rumors going around. Also this is still software emulation since the BC engine was completely removed to reduce cost.

Well, this is still only the limited software emulation offered by the 80 gig awhile back.

It's not as bad as the 40 gig, with no backward compatability, but not as nice as the 20 or 60 gig, with full hardware backward compatability. The 80 gig is in about the same boat as the 360 in that regard.

Except, of course, the PS2 has a much larger library than the XBox.

the only game i've used bc for is God of War II

i will never play another PS2 game (unless its something i could buy off the PSN to play on the PSP)

I purchased an 80 gig PS3 with Motorstorm back in October and since then I have tested every single PSone and PS2 game in my collection, which currently stands at 32 PSone games and 42 PS2 games.

None of my PSone or PS2 titles have experienced any playability problems on my 80 gig PS3; even my ancient copy of Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete plays without any hiccups.

Brought it back? It never left with the 80GB.

MaximusPaynicus3945d ago (Edited 3945d ago )'s just like the 80GB PS3 that they discontinued (allegedly).

*smacks forehead*

lodossrage3945d ago

The media kept claiming it was discontinued.

I could be wrong though

decapitator3945d ago

They never put an official word out that that they were discontinuing it. It was stupid rumors and guesses that were floating about the internet.

MaximusPaynicus3945d ago

True, true -- I've edited accordingly.

robbo9183944d ago

It was retailers. Best Buy, Wal-Mart and Gamestop ALL said the 80Gb SKU had been discontinued and they couldn't order any more. The failure on their part was that BUNDLE SKU was being discontinued and the new bundle will have a "new" SKU. So the retailers added to the fire.

There's a difference between being pulled and not receiving new shipments and discontinued. Sony hasn't shipped 80gb systems to my store or any other Gamestop in my district for sometime now. We're all but out and still asking for them.

This leads everyone, media and otherwise, to believe Sony has a new sku coming. & They do... wait and see.

If it were me... I'd drop every sku but the 40. Add BC thru firmware update to it and make it very well documented you can upgrade the HDD yourselves. Sony should even sell their own HDD's to further spread the word and know.

I'd then sell the system at 350 bucks

That's what I'd do...

DrDreadlox3944d ago

There really is no point in having the 80gig version if the 40gig had bc. I think that they only have it around because sony makes more money off it.
In Aussie and NZ, there is only the 40gig, which costs more than US$600. Probably when they run out of hardcore buyers, they will discontinue the 80gig, and put bc on the 40gig.

So this PS3 is pretty much the Mega PS3.. There will be alot of happy people this year.. With this much ammo i expect to see the PS3 & PSP sales sky rocket.. This is some of the most unexpected news ive heard in a few months.. I wonder what the competitors will do to stop this madness.. If they even CAN do anything..
