Dust 514 Impressions | FPS Guru

FPS Guru writes:

"For the last 10 years CCP has made a mark for themselves in the MMORPG world with one of the most intricate, detailed, and expansive series to ever hit the internets, EVE Online. Now as the company gets ready for its bold new adventure into the F2P MMOFPS arena via the PS3, one has to wonder what to expect from a company that’s main game is just as well known for its corporate espionage as it is for its ginormous space battles. Recently, we got a chance to get some hands-on time with the upcoming beta and find out just what separates it from the herd." (DUST 514, PS3)

I'll try it out tonight! Oddly enough, I've never tried out any FTP games on PSN(DC Universe/Free Realms).

It has pretty hefty learning curve tough, and needs a bit different approach than most of the fps games e.g Lone wolfing is heavily punished getting shot down by a mob of players who know your exact location.

In the next update, there is also massive graphics boost and vegetation added. Along with new guns, maps, overall optimization, better stuff in general. I've been in the beta a while now and the game completely changes with every patch/update.

I wasn't a big fan of planetside 2, it is neat conceptually but everyone just runs around in one big group and never bothers defending anything. I was always going from base to base with very little resistance or I was being stomped by a group that was horrendously larger than the group I was in. In the end the even match fights only seem to last until someone says "hey why don't we just go around getting credits by taking over empty bases". I'm not sure if the servers were just too small and that's why everything was empty or what, but there really needs to be some incentive to actually have a fight.

If you've ever played GW2s WvW pvp it is surprisingly similar.

I think that alot of people go into Dust 514 with a CoD style of run and gun play. As with battlefield, teamwork will be the key to enjoying Dust514.

I just D/l'ed the beta and can't wait to try it out!!! It looks like Battlefield meets Halo.

I enjoyed the beta. The only thing I didn't like was how the menus, especially the store, are really cluttered with a lot of stuff.

I think that shows how deep the customisation is... it's definitely off putting when you're just starting.

Closed beta really opened my eys to how deep this title is, now that it's open, it should get even more interesting. Great game!

i really enjoyed it alot. needs alot of work and since it's still in beta form, i'd start with the framerate. only possible on ps3!

couldn't get into the game when it was in closed beta. decided to give it another try in open beta and i have to say I'm enjoying it!

Yeah lol

I got in when the beta first came out last year, I couldn't get into the game at all. I hope it changed though. Lot of people on my friends list were playing it recently

CCP just announced a friend referral program for Dust where people signing up via a link get a free Recruit Assault Rifle and Skill Booster. Lots of fun to be had.
