Mass Effect 4 – Is It Needed?

WC - With Mass Effect 4 being announced late last year, it begs the question whether another game is needed in the series after, what many say, was the disappointment that was Mass Effect 3. The story of Shepard is over, but it seems that the Mass Effect series is still going strong. Although Bioware claimed that the story of ME4 would be vastly different to its predecessors, it makes me wonder whether they should perhaps concentrate their efforts elsewhere. Bioware have always been known, well they used to be at least, for having good and deep stories for their RPGs but after Dragon Age 2 and ME3 I really wonder whether they’ve reached their pinnacle and it’s all downhill from here.

If theirs no Shepard then I have no need to buy Mass Effect anything . It would be like the A-team without John "Hannibal" Smith to lead them . JMT

No. BioWare would be a lot better off working on a new IP in their proven style.

At this point in time they haven't lost all, or really even a majority, of their fanbase. If they stick with ME and DA they may end up doing more harm than good.

BioWare is one of the few companies that can release a new IP with a lot less risk. As long as they do change the style and genre of the gameplay too much, they can really choose whatever story they want to tell.

They really don't have many chances left before all faith is lost by the remaining fanbase. I say just shelve ME and work on something new, it can always be revisited later.
