What’s up with the Wii U? Nintendo’s console is off to a slow start

VB - While the launch of the Wii U was successful, it seems as though the console has gone dormant at an early age. (Wii U)

Oh you mean like most console launches ever, right? The thing's two months old. The Wii U and Vita will be just fine, once their libraries expand giving people more reasons to buy them.

we will always have doom and gloom articles about Sony and nintendo
no matter what the good they are doing to gamers

The Vita has had a good lineup since launch though. I haven't put it down for more than a couple of days.

My Wii U is essentially a Netflix U, right now. I thought Nintendo having more money would mean more games, but...I can't deal with only one or two good games a year. That happened with the Wii. I don't want to see it happen again!
Phil32  +   553d ago
That didn't happen with my Wii system. There were way more than "one or two good games a year." Sorry you didn't find enough titles for your obviously very specific tastes.

After the Nintendo video today I'm thinking it will be my go to machine for JRPG's. the X game looks like its gonna be a great game.

They keep comparing it to the launch of the Wii but they have to take into account that the Wii was much cheaper than the Wii U when it came out. So its normal that the sales are not going to be as fast as the Wiis.

Remember the 3DS in the beginning? The handheld had a horrible library of games in the beginning and it didnt sell as well as Nintendo wanted. So they applied a massive price drop and started to release a ton of games on it. I expect the same to happen to the 3DS and i predict that when the PS4 and the 720 get announced at a similar price point as the Wii U (just like with the Vita) Nintendo will apply a massive price cut in order to remain competitive.

This is one of the reasons why i didnt jump onto a Wii U because after the stunt they pulled with the 3DS its pretty obvious that if the Wii U doesnt sell as well as they want and the other consoles are priced at a similar level Nintendo will apply a massive price cut.

I am going to say this. Look at PS2, PS3, Xbox, 360, and THEN look at Wii U's Numbers the first 3 months...REALLY??? Not issue here.

Fair warning, for every time I've cited decent sales figures courtesy of NPD, I always received a few disagrees at least. Some people refuse to acknowledge facts as oppose to bias.

The Wii U's start is actually faster than the 360 and PS3, but slower than the Wii. It's not anyone's opinion, just the numbers provided.

Just like the wide majority of console launches?..Good fucking god you would think people have no memory or means to research
animegamingnerd  +   553d ago
they may have forgotten since it has been 7 years since this gen started

Or never knew because they were small children back then...
animegamingnerd  +   553d ago
first 3DS
second vita
third wii u
i wouldn't be surprise if the PS4 and 720 also have slow starts
Erimgard  +   553d ago
It's selling faster than the Xbox 360 or PS3 did at their starts. It's slower than the Wii though.

Software sales are they only area where it's truly "slow" and they just had some big announcements today.
WeAreLegion  +   553d ago
The Wii U did better at launch than the PS3 and 360. I understand that. You people keep stating that fact.

It's NOT doing well now though. If it keeps this up much longer, the PS3 and 360 will start outpacing it. (In terms of first year sales)

All they have to do is release one game that everyone wants. People will pay tons of money to play just one game. They always do.

It's been, what, a week or two since those figures were put out? How about waiting a couple of months before trying to make us concerned for this console's future? Besides, they've announced a plethora of fan favorite installments as well as two new JRPGs. Not to mention new IPs and a remake of a beloved Zelda game.

In the long run, this system will do just fine. I have very few doubts about that.
Godmars290  +   553d ago
They released it when they did to take advantage of Holiday shopping, not to actually support the platform.

That will happen with summer.

Bayonetta 2, Monolith Soft X, Zelda WW remake coming, i buy WiiU.

WiiU slow start, but awesome games coming.
DivineAssault  +   553d ago
cuz of games like yoshis yarn.. let some new IPs like X drop & itl pick up in sales.. maybe cuz xenoblade only hit around 1 mil despite 99 mil wiis out there
wiiulee  +   553d ago
yes at 3 million in two months...its off to a slow start and the sales will only skyrocketed as the games and better commercial start coming out...wiiu is ahead to stay
gobluesamg  +   553d ago
Ahead? They're behind an entire generation in tech.
tarbis  +   553d ago
It'll skyrocket with a price drop like what they did to 3DS. Nintendo consoles need to be very cheap since their consoles look cheap.
metroid32  +   553d ago
WiiU had a fast start in terms of sales.
