Dead Space 3 Has Micro-Transactions, Internet Explodes

It is no secret that the real news about games these days is what they are doing to wrong us as gamers. Recently I got a chance to check out Visceral Games’ latest chapter in the Dead Space franchise. I loved the creepy snow vibe, and somehow after three iterations it still makes me jump from time to time. I will be reviewing the game in the coming weeks, and am pretty excited about seeing where it goes.

The story is too old to be commented.

*Looks at the two news below this*

Oh but when Borderlands does similar stuff its ok? OOOH cause borderlands does it right.. and its not exactly micro-transactions, and you can live with out it.

Well you know what? You can live with out "micro-transactions" in DS3 as well, this whole gen is a mess, I can't understand how can people accept being scammed by DLC and they are happy with it.

FrustratedFury1284d ago

It's easy to not get scammed. Don't buy the micro-transactions. Problem solved.

TheOneWhoIsTornApart1284d ago

Not sure why people actually gave you disagrees

FrustratedFury1284d ago

Must be the way I said it...I'm good like that.

You're missing the point. Micro-transactions are almost always the result of developers picking apart their finished games and re-monetizing the content.

It's one thing to do it with free-to-play games, but it's ESPECIALLY annoying with FULL PRICE console games that are ridiculously bare-bones if you choose not to spend more than the $60 asking price on the micro-content.

In this particular case, though, it just sounds like a cheat pack. Never really had a problem with those.

FrustratedFury1284d ago

Most people hate micro-transactions. So if most players don't support it, companies will say "Well, I guess this micro-transaction stuff really isn't working out." and they will stop doing it. I've been saying vote will your dollars for years now. It still holds true. Will I pick up Dead Space 3 when it hits? Absolutely. Will I buy one single piece of DLC for it? Hell no.

Bimkoblerutso1283d ago

No, I'm sorry. I don't know why I responded as if I was in opposition to you. I agree.

You can pay money to unlock items EARLY.
Or you can play the game and collect the items the way you normally would.
It's not a big deal.

FarCryLover1821284d ago

I am actually ok with this, I know publishers need to make money and this helps them out as well as people WHO DONT WANT TO PLAY THE GAME for themselves. It allows the pub to make money and for the "can't be bothered to play this game and unlock stuff myself" gamer to get what they want without playing.

BUT, if they started charging for stuff that you can't get by just playing the game.... then that SUCKS

NYC_Gamer1284d ago

It'll spread to other studios just like dlc/online passes

BanBrother1284d ago (Edited 1284d ago )

Actually, Dead Space 1 and 2 sold weapon packs as well, which made completing the game a cake-walk (already was considering the cheats).

I suppose I should be able to say I'm okay with this, considering I won't be buying them, but the fact is, they could easily include this in the game. EA can suck my ass as far as I'm concerned. (They aren't the only ones who do it)

EDIT: I meant they aren't the only ones who charge for dlc like this, not the ass thingy. It looked weird at first.

shutUpAndTakeMyMoney1284d ago

On top of that the game is not scary anymore.

Console gaming destroys again.

Seeing moves like this are making the next generation look even more unappealing.

Hanso1284d ago

this gen dlc and online pass
and next gen? -.-

BanBrother1284d ago

I would not be suprised if publishers made you renew your online pass to be honest. They keep bitching about server costs, so I wouldn't hold my breath. It will start off by having 'premium' packages, and the free packages. Premium will probably get you on better dedicated servers. After enough people pay, everything will be subscription based.

Not saying that it will definitely happen, but I would not be suprised.

Mocat1283d ago

Next gen you literally bend over and take it.

animegamingnerd1284d ago

yeah i think i will just say screw both PC and next gen consoles and just go retro

HiddenMission1284d ago

NOBODY IS MAKING YOU BUY THE STUFF!!!

Let's be clear you can still get these items the old school way by playing. Not every gamer has tons of time on their hands so being able to pay to speed up the process should be an option.

Micro transactions are only bad when you can't earn the items!

Kyosuke_Sanada1284d ago (Edited 1284d ago )

Which will eventually happen if people funnel enough funds to this ludicrous practice. Remember how people laughed at how stupid paying for horse armour was and look at the gaming industry now......

NYC_Gamer1284d ago (Edited 1284d ago )

I can speak from experience with NBA 2K13 with that terrible VC system....They reward the player with cheap amounts of credits and items in the game are real expensive so many players opt to buy the VC packs[with real $$$]..It's a real shady business tactic in my opinion...
