It is no secret that the real news about games these days is what they are doing to wrong us as gamers. Recently I got a chance to check out Visceral Games’ latest chapter in the Dead Space franchise. I loved the creepy snow vibe, and somehow after three iterations it still makes me jump from time to time. I will be reviewing the game in the coming weeks, and am pretty excited about seeing where it goes.
Oh but when Borderlands does similar stuff its ok? OOOH cause borderlands does it right.. and its not exactly micro-transactions, and you can live with out it.
Well you know what? You can live with out "micro-transactions" in DS3 as well, this whole gen is a mess, I can't understand how can people accept being scammed by DLC and they are happy with it.
It's one thing to do it with free-to-play games, but it's ESPECIALLY annoying with FULL PRICE console games that are ridiculously bare-bones if you choose not to spend more than the $60 asking price on the micro-content.
In this particular case, though, it just sounds like a cheat pack. Never really had a problem with those.
You can pay money to unlock items EARLY.
Or you can play the game and collect the items the way you normally would.
It's not a big deal.
BUT, if they started charging for stuff that you can't get by just playing the game.... then that SUCKS
I suppose I should be able to say I'm okay with this, considering I won't be buying them, but the fact is, they could easily include this in the game. EA can suck my ass as far as I'm concerned. (They aren't the only ones who do it)
EDIT: I meant they aren't the only ones who charge for dlc like this, not the ass thingy. It looked weird at first.

Console gaming destroys again.
and next gen? -.-
Not saying that it will definitely happen, but I would not be suprised.
Let's be clear you can still get these items the old school way by playing. Not every gamer has tons of time on their hands so being able to pay to speed up the process should be an option.
Micro transactions are only bad when you can't earn the items!
I'm not sure if you are aware but MMO's have been doing this along with other PC games. What EA and others are doing is trying to change the business model to tailor it to meet every gamers/consumers spending desires.
Some gamers don't mind spending more while others want to spend less. This is why PC games are going free to play with micro transactions.
Now this is what I believe but if the micro transactions really hit home on consoles and digital distribution replaces retailers then you will see all games go free to play.
You will get to download the title and earn everything but it will take much longer than ever before or you will have to pay to advance faster.
Since there are two types of gamers those with disposable income and those without this will not be a problem because it leaves the way the gamer wants to experience a title up to themselves.
Some might have problem with being nickle and dimmed but it will be there choice not to invest the time into a title.
As gamers we have to remember that software sales have declined over the years while the price of producing games have gone up. What this means is that developers and publishers have to totally change their business models to adjust to these economic imbalances.
All of these tweaks being DLC, micro transactions or subscriptions have not been streamlined yet...since it's only been going on for about 5 years now. Eventually a standardized system will be established so every one wins.
I know this is a long rant but I honestly feel that gamers need to look at all the changes happening in our industry...not just one example of how things have changed. Instead we should look at where the industry as a whole is heading and it's brighter than most think.
Games are being too expensive to create you say, then developers need to stop aiming for movie budgets and advertising or maybe gaming needs to start over from the top so it can have a chance to recover.
I don't trust any company with suggestions like these because it is way too exploitable and fuels a ravine in separating it's consumers which leads to balancing issues, even more over-priced content etc.
Alot if gamers already regard the last generation a hell of a lot better than this because developers were innovative, way more variety and games actually felt they were complete the first time.
What does this generation have over the last? Gimmicks and Graphics.
As you alluded to there are things that this generation has improved on. But there really is no denying how much more innovative creators were. Obviously there are exceptions, but with all of these "hit number three or four in a series then make a prequel yet never making any new ip" thing has gotten on my last nerve. I am not looking forward to seeing the nextbox and PS4's launch/launch window lineup. I want to see the next Persona game, things that aren't the same thing that we've seen for the past eight years over and over.
We've had some truly amazing experiences this generation. But I think it says something that when playing Jak and Daxter HD(a game that is a harken to the old school in a way) I felt a sense of joy and nostalgia throughout the whole experience. I really miss health packs(haha).
In my roundabout way of saying: I agree! Lol
Video game players have to be smart and collective when it comes to buying things, particularly things they really don't agree with. When it all boils down to it, if you don't like what a company is doing, stop supporting it. Once the company sees their shenanigans aren't working, they will stop. After all, they're trying to make money.
You say there are less innovative games I say your just not looking because last gen had some stand outs that simply pushed the AAA game to new heights. This has been repeated this gen the problem is between the mainstream press and the ignorant sheep gamer the true gems get over looked.
You don't trust companies because they can and in some case shown that they have made very bad decisions but at the same time we have companies showing that they care about us.
Take BioWare and ME3...every gamer complained about the ending and what do they do they go back to the drawing board fix it and give it to us free. On top of that they gave us several free DLC expansions to the Co-Op modes.
Like I said you can not stand there and act like all companies are the same and that they are all out to get in our pocket with no intention what so ever of providing costumer satisfaction.
I could write for days point out examples of this but I'm limited with time and bubbles.
You want games to stop becoming expensive to make...I don't think you really grasp what you are saying. Every industry in the world costs more and more to advance that is just a reality. Because your budget does not allow does not mean you should hold others back.
It's this reason why some devs decide to push the limits of what we can experience on consoles. Even last gen prices went up radically higher than before and those innovative games are all from that increase.
In my opinion it's would a horrible decision to stop or prevent forward movement in our industry...fear should not stop us from reaching for the stars right?
What I am saying is before companies add more ways to remove money in consumer's wallet, they need to fix the problems at hand first. For gamers, we need to wonder there is so many in-house fighting amongst us and how can we erase the stereotype of ourselves from mainstream eyes who currently think that we are all serial killers with controllers.
I don't want us to step backwards but look before we leap, thats all.
"Take BioWare and ME3...every gamer complained about the ending and what do they do they go back to the drawing board fix it and give it to us free. On top of that they gave us several free DLC expansions to the Co-Op modes."
This wasn't done because they "care" about us. It is smart business to "give" away small "gifts" to consumers for something new that you are trying to establish (MP). As soon as that's done expect to be charged.
UC2 didn't have an online pass and gave away free mp dlc-not so with UC3
AC:BH didn't have an online pass and gave away free mp dlc as well
the list goes on
