CCP Announce That PS3 Exclusive Dust 514 is Officially In Open Beta

Bone-idle.ie writes "CCP Games have today announced that DUST 514 the first game of its kind is now officially in Open Beta. The Free to Play Playstation 3 exclusive made the unprecedented move of joining the Dust universe to the EVE online universe on a single shard server that merges the PC and Console gamers for the first time ever.
Large scale infantry based combat takes place on the PS3 while the PC EVE player control the interstellar strategic warfare. The two worlds will start to merge and CCP hope this is just the start to a whole new way of playing online. " (DUST 514, PC, PS3)

This game is actually really fun.
At first the resource system is a bit of a pain and you may throw a few bucks down just to get a good permanent militia load out or two, but that urge to save up for better gear makes you play a lot smarter, especially after you lose a few 50k+ rifles to people with basic weapons.
Also any game that rewards support classes well gets a thumbs up from me.

I just wanna be a medic. Is there a medic? How does it play? Can't recall one in the old beta.

Yes you can be a medic. It falls under the 'logistics' class. Long as you train in those skills you can revive/heal people. Also have to purchase the tools to do so. Early in the beta there was no way of telling who needed revived but to my knowledge they have fixed that.

Medic is awesome now. It plays a lot like TF2's in that you can pick guys up with an Injector and the repair them for points. If you're repairing someone and they get a kill, you get a +35 Guardian bonus. Go with Logistics (medic) when you start out.

I just hope it doesn't end up like Planetside 2 where it's trying to be a big dynamic world but you end up with just a big zerg group going around killing things and defending nothing. Most of the time I was either severely outnumbering the enemy or I was severely outnumbered. I'd be really interested in a larger dynamic FPS but it just seems, if they're not balancing teams it just gets boring no matter whose side you're on.

It will be dynamic, but Dust 514 is more about skirmish battles for territory I believe, but I have yet to sample it so I will hold back until I know.

I believe the aim is to get EVE Online synched with Dust 514 so one day conquering planets will be possible by assigning mercenaries from Dust 514 to do the job. So matches can't be fully dynamic continent sized battles or they would be endless. So there must be a start/end for battles for it to be effective.

been in the closed beta a few months now. Very deep game! Graphics are kinda weak, but I anticipate updates.
