Final Fantasy is what I call an unofficial Sony franchise. It's not made by Sony but most people affiliate Sony with Final Fantasy. This sale is vey fitting.

CatXFlash4111d ago

I started playing Final Fantasy on NES and SUPER NES... you sound really stupid to me.

kreate4111d ago (Edited 4111d ago )

He's just trying to say that most Sony fans are also final fantasy fans. Where Nintendo fans are w Mario and Zelda.

The peak of final fantasy is w ps1 and ps2. Not Nintendo or even ps3.

Though if it wasn't for the ps3. Final fantasy would of been dead by now or in worst situation than the current state its in. Imagine final fantasy releasing only on Xbox this generation.

Eyeco4111d ago

Square themselves called the PS1/PS2 FF as the golden age era

TheBardsSong4110d ago

Only on this site will you get disagrees for playing Final Fantasy where it began.

Furesis4110d ago

not cool bro, not cool

Mounce4110d ago

CatXFlash, calm your fanboy-nipples.

I understand what he means, just as Solid Snake and Big Boss can feel 'Sony-Franchise' and yet the games were originally on MSX and is on Xbox and 360 and PS1/PS2/PS3...

FF7, FF8, FF9. FFX, X-2, were PS-Exclusive, Square and Sony were bros back then and after FF7 was when the FF-BOOM happened. FF6 still cherished by fans, but it wasn't responsible for the FF-Boom....Aka. The best of the FF-Boom happens On the Playstations.

adorie4110d ago (Edited 4110d ago )

Guess what most of those NES and SNES FF's landed?
PlayStation. No need to go there and call him names either. Have some respect.

TenkoTAiLS4110d ago

@Mounce
FF7 and FF8 were not PS-Exclusive. They both got PC release one year after the PS release. They had smother and enhanced graphics, better audio in places, and in FF7's case a revised script fixing most of the spelling errors etc. and FF8 PC even included the Chocobo World mini-game that you otherwise couldn't play outside of Japan due to them not releasing the Pocket Station in the west.

Much like anything there is a split in the fanbase and people involved, those that grew up with the later games would see Sony as being the home of Final Fantasy. But those that grew up with all the earlier ones were shocked when it made the switch, especially since they had shown off a tech demo to showcase what the "next" Final Fantasy would have looked like on the Nintendo 64. So some still consider Nintendo as the home of the series and what got it started in the first place. Its a tough call to make between the two.

Mounce4110d ago

@TenkoTAiLs - Even if so, that FF7 and FF8 went PC, it went as you said 1 year later....and many people honestly prefer the music from the PS1-quality than the PC version. Sometimes, older-styled music sounds better like RPG music from Earthbound/Mother series compared to music of recent or any other RPG of recent generations.

But that still stands by my point that even if FF7 and FF8, they're still 99% seen as Playstation games, they got their FF boom because of them being released on the console and showcasing what the consoles of that time could handle, and what the CD-Disc could handle, it wasn't about whether or not it ported to PC really :L

TenkoTAiLS4110d ago

@Mounce
There is no need to jump on the defensive, i was just explaining that those two games aren't exclusive to the Playstation. I was also just stating the differences, i prefer the final "One-winged Angel" music from the PSX myself too >.<

Also on your last comment it would be more accurate to say it showcased what CD-Rom tech could do (even tho it took 3 of them), because the N64 was actually superior tech wise in almost every other aspect. Try comparing a clean pic of the original Conker's Bad Fur Day to a clean pic of FF9 in all its jaggyness and you can see the big graphical difference.

In saying that tho the PSX had the games and the devs behind it to back it more than Nintendo did, the PSX was a great machine. I still have mine under the bed somewhere haha.

mi_titan274110d ago

u wouldnt have gotten so many disagrees if you didnt add "you sound really stupid"

tommygunzII4108d ago

Don't forget what may be the best in the franchise, FFXII was PS exclusive.

CalvinKlein4110d ago

Aww crap, I just bought FF9 a few days ago. Its ok tho, because i really like it. I was unsure because I loved 7 but not 8 or 10 so much. So far 9 has mee hooked and it was worth full price to me.

hot4play4110d ago

FF9 is definitely worth it. Its also my fav PS1-era FF. In fact, im playing it right now on my Vita. (never gets old)

IAMERROR4110d ago

Actually I'm pretty sure it's a Square franchise! lol
But seriously it's silly to argue over things like this

Canary4110d ago

Let's see... the definitive versions of FF1 and FF2 are both on the GBA.

The definitive version of FF3 is on the NDS, but was ported to the PSP.

Definitive version of FF4 is on the PSP.

Definitive version of FF5 is on SNES.
Definitive version of FF6 is on GBA

VII-IX's definitive versions were on PS1.

X and XII were PS2-only.

XI's definitive version was PC.

XIII's definitive version, such that it was, was PS3.

FFXIV's definitive version, such that it was, was PC.

Final Fantasy titles are all across the board. Given how many times the older titles have been ported, I don't think it's a stretch to say that Nintendo hardware has been the home of the franchise moreso than any other brand.

(Speaking solely of main-series releases).

It is worth noting, however, that the Sony PS3 is unique in that it can (theoretically) play EVERY Final Fantasy game, aside from FF3 and FF4. So it's not entirely wrong to associate the series more with Sony than Nintendo... but, as is the case with virtually all of Squaresoft's games, the PS1 ports are drastically inferior to the SNES originals and/or GBA remakes.

doogiebear4111d ago

Would much rather prefer another Atlus sale. Their games stand the test of time and they have stories that are relevant to everyday life/issues while still being in a fantasy realm.

Y_51504111d ago

Yeah I still want to buy Catherine just for the story alone!

Blastoise4111d ago

Might get Final fantasy VI. Wack it on my Vita

Son_Lee4111d ago

I always whack it on my Vita.

Godchild10204111d ago (Edited 4111d ago )

Yes, it is. I can only hope those of us in NA can get some (real) Final fantasy love too.

hot4play4111d ago

:(
I want to play FF Anniversary 1&2, FF5 on my Vita...

Relientk774111d ago

Look at all these fantsastic games

Original Final Fantasy 7 - Is it Worth Playing in 2024?

Final Fantasy 7 has come back under the spotlight thanks to the release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, but is it worth replaying the original?

ravens5215d ago

Got to Zacks part in 7 Rebirth. Said f it. Finishing my game in 7 og. Just got to part 2 yesterday. I also got Crisis Core... So it'll be a while before I'm back to Rebirth. I just keep thinking about it too smh, want to get back to playing it. Not till I know Zacks story though. I beat 7 og sooooooo long ago, it's crazy going through it again and remembering things.

MrNinosan15d ago (Edited 15d ago )

Got to Zacks part in Rebirth?
You mean you started the game and turned it off?
The game starts with Zack...

ravens5215d ago

... Really 🤓 lol. His second part, I've played for 80hrs lmao. <---- PS5 Run time, probably not all game time. You guys know how it goes.

VIK212115d ago (Edited 15d ago )

Did you not ever play the OG FF7? After you recruit Vincent, later in the game, disc 3, return to that basement and look at the pod, there's a whole Zack story that'll trigger as a memory.... it's well hidden in the game and a lot of things regarding Zack are cleared up. FF7 Crisis Core is basically an extend feature of that hidden flashback... It took me years to discover it back then lol

MrNinosan14d ago

@ravens52
80 hours in Rebirth by doing everything, and you should've reached Zacks story about 5 times 🤣

ravens5214d ago

Ye I kno that's y I said not all gameplay time. But also I am very anal when it comes to exploring.

ravens5214d ago

Not to mention fighting Titan at his full strength. Hours spent trying still haven't succeeded. Found all 3 ruins but I'ma masochist when it comes to games.

Barlos15d ago

Very much so. Graphically it's dated but the story and the gameplay haven't aged a day. It's still one of my all time favourite RPGs and for me is better than Remake in some ways.

Barlos15d ago (Edited 15d ago )

It always takes me back to Christmas 1997, I got it as a gift and I was blown away when I played it. I couldn't believe games could look that good. The combination of pre rendered backgrounds and FMV really made it stand out. It definitely still has a certain charm that modern games can't replicate.

I can't imagine people will still be talking about Remake and Rebirth in 27 years.

Tapani14d ago

Fully agreed. To me the atmosphere, pacing, gameplay and music are all better than in the remake.

Rebel_Scum15d ago

Yes, play this, skip remake, start rebirth for new players.

I_am_Batman15d ago

Skip Remake? That's terrible advice.

leahcim15d ago

Remake is so amazing, pure FFVII Love, play it on PS5 please! aww the graphics the battles, the music... a dream come true.

Rebel_Scum15d ago (Edited 15d ago )

I disagree Batman

Rise of the ronin sold twice as much as Dragons Dogma 2 this week...but no articles about that. It's only news if a PS exclusive is being outsold.
