Rico seemed racist towards the hellghast him self he just purely hated them. I mean I know they were there enemy, but they were suppose to take the leader from 2 alive he was like fuck that. He hated them because they were different RACISM.

Sazh was awesome. Easily the best character in FF13. He could have been a complete as**ole and I still would've liked him because he had a chocobo in his afro.
I'm not sure the Japanese are the best at portraying black dudes, and so Barrett and Sazh are pretty exploitative and occasionally steroetypical as characters, Sazh a lot less so though.
Barrett IS pretty stereotypical. Can't say I ever liked him much, honestly.
Sazh, though... he had a somewhat stereotypical LOOK, but of the FF's I've BEATEN(I've played nearly every one, but don't include characters from games I haven't completed yet), he's second only to Rikku in terms of my favorites.
Reddas was pretty cool, too. I wanna say the Vierra, as a whole, but mostly because of how sexy they were.
sometimes i dont understand why some articles get approved on this site. yes its about games, but does something regarding a race/ethnicity of vidya game characters even relevant?
well with that type of thinking, why is anything but release announcements or rumors on the site? I believe that this is news for gamers, not gaming news. besides, even the greatest publications have opinion pieces.
If it was a negative article, I could see your point. But what's wrong with celebrating the few well-written black characters in gaming? Especially on Martin Luther King day.
Shadow the Hedgehog :D Team Fortress 2 Demoman. I think the Left 4 Dead series has had a couple of black characters. Balrog (or M.Bison depending on where you're from) Zasalamel from Soul Calibur series is also quite a cool design.
To be fair, we can have a top 5 female characters, top 5 gay characters, top 5 animal characters, top 5 characters over 55 etc.
I know this article is good, but in general this is just an example of why humans and racism go hand-in-hand. Your mind is picking and dividing into groups. Again, good article, just saying that racism will never go away, whether positively or negatively shining light on a 'group' of people.

Just thought I'd be 'that' guy and point out the obvious hypocrisy when negative light is shown to a minority, as any light is what is singling out a group and creating said 'minority'. Preaching to the choir I was. Good article though. I'd have Sergeant Johnson from Halo as he was ripped straight out of Aliens lol.

Sahz is a walking black stereotype, and Jacob is pretty much the most unpopular Mass Effect character.
The only decent one on this list is Lee, and I can't tell if it's the fault of the article creator or the games industry in general. Probably both...
