MasonicGamer.com: Anarchy Reigns has been a long time coming for Platinum Games, the game has only just launched here yet Japan have been enjoying it since July last year. The reason for such a delay is due to the game’s publisher Sega not having much belief in the title’s ability to sell but somewhere along the way they’ve had a change of heart. There’s also been a change of price as Anarchy Reigns arrives with at only £20 but is it enough?
A recent wave of modern brawlers have exploded onto the scene, and it feels like they owe Anarchy Reigns some gratitude.
Jerry from BagoGames says, "With Astral Chain coming out right around the corner for the Nintendo Switch, I couldn’t help but think about all the amazing games PlatinumGames has pumped out over the years. Some revered greatly, others panned by critics, but to me insane infatuation. These are my five favorite games from my favorite developer"
After Xbox's announcement that there won't be any more backwards compatible games until the release of Project Scarlett, here's a reflection of what could, or perhaps should have been.
Not only would it have been great if Max Payne, Freedom Fighters, Nier, Blur and Lollipop Chainsaw got to become backwards compatible, it also would be great if those games got to have more games come out in their franchises.
Its not as backwards compatibity is dead its just been put on hold so all backwards compatibity game work on next xbox then when its released they will start up again, P.S I did finish Avatar: The Last Airbender – The Burning Earth
Might get the chance when Scarlett comes out. I mean for all games Xbox 360 and Original Xbox. I can dream it happening.
Excellent game but one that wont be seen for what it is ie a hybrid. Their is a tightness to combat that you wont experience during the campaign and it's something lost likely on most that play it. The real meat isn't the campaign - despite it still being a lot of fun- ,but the intensely tight mechanic that is fighting non grunts in multi modes. There is a share of non grunt action too in campaign but it's more the focus in multi- even with just single player bots
Anarchy campaign feels much more like a like an over the top well delivered Streets of Rage style while the more intense multi needs you be highly aware of the core mechanic that is to parry and take advantage of openings. In this sense multi modes are like playing a 3d Street Fighter but while in free roam and with aspects of more campaign style grunt action layered in dynamically to great effect. Unlike what's preceded this genre before then and so 6/10 is short sighted especially as it very much works
Most people will ignore this on the basis of media or any word of mouth that has it down as shallow. Those on the fence should at least try it out and even try sinking some serious time into learning how to play it the correct way. Quite different to Bayonetta too in that it isn't combo heavy which is another reason people may think it's shallow actually. Give it a proper try though especially at this price and you may be quite surprised
I rented out the ps3 version of this game and based on just the single player, this game is about a 6.5~7.5/10 game. Nothing about the single player blew me away and just felt weak compared to Bayonetta and Vanquish. This game is a fighting/brawler game which means it becomes more fun with other people. Since it was only a rental, I only had the game for a few nights. Those few nights it was extremely hard for me to find anyone to play with, particularly the team modes. Hardly anyone was doing ranks those nights and no one was on the casual stuff. This game is simply not that popular...you know since everyone else is either watching netflix or playing COD on the ps3.
What makes it worse is that this game has no local multiplayer. It would've been a great powerstone-esque party game, but the fact that they left it out kinda warrants that low score imo. It's a fighter with no local multiplayer.
I like platinum games as a studio, but IMO, this is their weakest game I've played yet.
