Roll for inspiration: Learning from the tabletop world

Gaming has obvious roots in the tabletop world. From RPGs with Dungeons and Dragons settings to directly transplanting gameplay mechanics, pen and paper systems are everywhere. But video games could still learn a lot from that oh-so-nerdy hobby, like how to form a story. (BioShock, Culture, Dragon Age 2, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, The Sims 3)

Good read, I use to love playing table top games but its getting harder to find the time. Its hard to get a good group and make the time for it. I love AD&D and the best part about the story telling is that the group makes the story. In games, like your said the programmers and the writes have a set story. Where as a AD&D game sometimes your story can change over each week you play. I feel that if anyone really likes video games RPG's then they need to sit down and try out a game with some friends. Try meeting some new people and try out a game cause its fun and you can really get hooked.
