Lightning Returns is a bold new take on a troubled series | Casually Addicted

Casually Addicted writes, "Square hopes that the fresh mechanics and the new naming scheme will set up Lightning Returns to pull fans back in to the series. It’s so radically different from everything that has preceded it that it just may work. The question remains as to whether or not this title will appeal to the sizable fanbase that has remained loyal through the years." (Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, PS3, Xbox 360)

My hopes aren't high, but I hope it's good. I miss playing a good new single player FF game.

I don't know what the end result will be, which should go without saying, but I hope it's at least interesting. I'm glad to see they're trying something new. I assume they have begun work on Final Fantasy 15, and I hope they are thinking long and hard about what that product needs to be.

Honestly, I'm a bit interested in this for the mechanics, but because its tied to a story which not only lost my interest but I've come to actively hate because it wont go away, hit levels of convolution that put MGS to shame, I'll only bother with it when its $20.

Also can't but further note that they're talking up the number of shops which will be in the game, and that translate to me that - somehow, SOMEHOW - they don't understand why a lack of shops in FF13 was such an issue.

Much like the lack of NPCs to interact with, which makes me frightened of what they've done this time around.

This is exactly what I have wanted them to do, you seriously can't hold onto something forever.

It's like Rambo movies, eventually they need to change altogether or just end. I welcome new ideas and new concepts, I always hated seeing the same thing over and over or feeling the same way over and over when playing a game.

The same could be said about music, I don't expect an artist I listen to make the same type of music with every song written.

I mean if you loved making games for a living don't you think it would get annoying people never wanting anything different out of you..? Constantly expecting you to rehash the same things over and over without ever exploring more.

Meh that isn't for me I guess some people like no change but I love it.

We don't want rehash, we want quality. We want a story we can sink our teeth into and characters that we actually care about. As opposed to pretty but boring characters in a pretty but boring story.

The fact that I still click on links about FF games, proves that I have not totally given up hope, but every time I read one I become more and more convinced that I am simply no longer SquareEnix's target audience. For their sake I hope they have enough Lightning fans to keep their business going after the rest of us move on.

FF13 isnt the best, but come on. Im starting to think ppl just troll these articles for the hell of it. I hear ppl whining about Lightening and how she sux, really? Zidane, Tidus, and Vaan? They were way worse, although Vaan was mildly likable. Lets be honest here Lightening is a decent badass, and lightyears ahead of those three. The last FF main that was actually good was Squall. Im just tired of 13 being pointed out as the beginning of the end, as the non-blind have seen that FF9 was, in terms of character originality. If anything, FF13 birthed the ATB fighting system, which is hands down the best in any FF.
