PlayStation Network Maintenance 1/17 - 1/19 - PSN Outage Extended

IGN Writes: EVENING UPDATE: Oh, dear. The PlayStation Network maintenance that was supposed to end Thursday evening but was extended to Friday morning and then extended to Friday night has now been extended to early Saturday morning. The official PlayStation Knowledge Center is now saying the maintenance that's keeping all users from the PlayStation Store and some users from logging into the PlayStation Network at all has been extended to Saturday 2 a.m. Pacific / 5 a.m. Eastern. We'll keep you updated if that changes.

Here we go again!!!! Why is it that this crap always happens during the weekend when I am off of work!?!?! Why not start maintenance on a Tuesday. Tuesday sucks anyway, right?

Tuesday and Wednesday are the worst days to do Maintenance on. That is when the store updates in NA and EU, respectively. I would take a Sunday to early morning Tuesday to get maintenance done, than any other day.

Godchild, if the damn network is down, then no one is playing online. If no one is playing, no one is buying content from the store ANYWAY, so the piddly little updates could wait. I'm not really that upset, I was just looking forward to playing after a long week of actual WORK, so I'll just have to wait a bit.

PSN is back up I can play online but still no access to the store. I played a few rounds of BlOPS2 and hit detection was much improved, wtf is up wit that?

I'm confused. I played BF3 last night with a couple friends until 6AM EST. The night before my friends could not get online to play but I played for several hours. So is it only down at certain times or certain areas? You can check my Battlelog for proof. I also got the "Gunship" and "Offroad" trophies last night which should be dated as well.

I was never bother by the store or the network going down for Maintenance. I used the time to do other things and catch up on some school, some work related things, Talk with the family and catch up with friends.

(Generally speaking)I'm just saying if you purchase items from the store, you wouldn't like for them to do maintenance on the Network at that time.

this psn is down thing is blown out of proportion since the title doesnt include:

"psn down in certain region"

makes it sound like its a universal problem.

I'm in Canada too. Was there recently an update to the store because I'm downloading a 26MB update right now. I have no PSN access issues at all.

I have read that if you go to settings > system update > let it update , and restart your console PSN will work.

I have no idea if this works or if it will brick your console or something so I don't know if it's a wise thing to do.

It depends if you have signed into PSN before the maintenance started. From the Playstation support:

"If you have signed in to PSN within 5 days prior to the start of maintenance (meaning: any time since January 12), you MAY be able to play games online and enjoy apps such as Netflix, HULU Plus and Music Unlimited during this maintenance period.

But even if that is the case, it still might not have worked for every person logged on before the maintenance started. You obviously have logged on before the maintenance and have not been affected. :)

Not really. I play everyday, and I was still unable to log in. I had some friends who were able to, and some couldn't, even though we played within 24 hrs of the maintenance period.

You must be kidding. This isn't acceptable at all. Why cant SONY use some of that PSN+ Money? You know, the same way M$ used some of its XBOX Live money to make Forward Unto Dawn, at the cost of $11+ Million; that they gave us for FREE!

Listen: as long as my son & daughter "STAY" on the honor roll and dont have homework, basketball, softball, baseball, band, track, volleyball, tennis, or football practices; They can do what they like...they've earned it by handling their job (Academics, & Academic Activities)!

Kids here have a 4 day weekend due to the end of the marking period. They should be able to play online, my kids are playing with friends and teammates on Live right now. PSN members should be doing the same with a 4 day weekend if they like.

I've been playing online since the maintenance started. They submitted a Maintenance Warning on the Blog earlier in the week noting that if you log into your PSN account within so many hours prior to the maintenance, you would stay logged in.

I understand it's an inconvenience, but it's a minor one at that. Had you read the instructions prior, we wouldn't even be debating this.

Online right now, played Borderlands the last three nights...no problems at all.

Has anyone else had issues with their USB headsets(particularly the Pulse Wireless Headsets)? They were working fine for two weeks but mysteriously stopped working Thursday afternoon, during the maintenance.

I've found other people with the same issue...during the same time period.

Disregard this...just found the problem :) As far as the maintenance, I'm good. Alternating between Darksiders and Yakuza 4. I heard great things about Darksiders, but I didn't think it would be this good!

No way is Darksiders 2 better. It does away with dash, and block. War is a better character than Death. Ruin is a much more epic mount. Better weapons in the first game too. Better enemies and villains. Samael had a more prominent roll. And let's not forget Mark Hamil as the Watcher.

I don't understand what's going on. I've not had a single problem getting onto PSN today. Played Battlefield 3 for a couple of hours and it didn't sign off at all. I'm in Europe by the way, specifically the UK. A couple of my friends here have had problems though.

The title is a bit misleading. I was confused as well. It's not really an "outage." You can sign in and play online, but can't access PS Store and Account Management. Some people can't sign in online though because they didn't login between Tuesday and the day of the maintenance.

Maybe catch up on those free downloadable PSN+ titles, catch up on some Single player games (Complete your backlog), read a book/magazine or at the very least if you don't have a job, go find one (In general not directed towards you).

I bought Sonic&All Stars Racing Transformed yesterday and i thought i wasnt gonna be able to play online because i couldnt type in the online pass code and to my surprised i tried to play a match making race and the game let me do it lol, i played like 7 races online with my nephew without having to put the online pass code lol.
Btw the game is awesome!!!!!!

Is laggy. The store isn't any better, I was waiting all night(cst here)then when I tried to download games for my psp I either got error code or there's no photo for the game, like is not loading.

I have been playing online all week with no problems. The playstation store was down for a couple days.

A few others mentioned that some games like BF3 are running smoother. Both Battlefield Bad Company 2 and Killzone 3 seem to be running smoother and faster , Killzone 3s hit detection feels much improved for some reason.
