No Halo 4 at MLG This Year

Hardcore Gamer: Competitive Halo players that were hoping to play Halo 4 for the first time at MLG are out of luck, as league co-founder and CEO Sundance DiGiovanni is reporting the company has signed its console shooter deal for 2013 and Halo isn’t in it.

Not surprising. Halo is not what it once was. Halo 4 is the lowest scoring and worst selling Halo game. It debuted at #2 on XBL activity charts but has already fallen to #4 and falling further fast. The word on the street among gamers is that it's the worst Halo of all which I agree, I gamefly'd it and sent it back the next day. I hate the Prometheans worse than I hated the Flood. The MLG pros just don't think it's good enough to play in the tournament. MS is going to need a lot more than more Halo to get them out of last place in the console war.

Shadonic4114d ago

Yo know that fact that MS sold the tournament contract to virging gameing is really the only if not biggest reason why they cant If they didnt want to put it on then they wouldnt of gone through to make and rush out playlists go through all these meetings and really MLG players didnt start dropping until sundance announced the status and that Halo may not be on, and really the main reason why most of said MLG players which from some reason are viewed as more highly and worthy of all things great than the people creating that game no matter if its 343 or bungie are mostly leaveing because of money. It wouldnt really change the outcome much even if it was in the number 1 spot. its as simple as this MS was stupid and sold a contract giving virgin gameing control over tournaments for Halo 4 and even though 343 did express intrest in getting something working virgin gameing wasent having it and most likeley MLG was probably offered a deal but at the cost of say plublicty or money or something. I wish the best to the MLG players but really when it comes to the fans they need to research this stuff more and realize no matter how the game could have been it all depended on MS's decision of selling the rights to virgin gameing.

I am just boggled by the amount of free time you have to shower words and words of hate on nearly every Halo article that gets submitted here.

Btw, Virgin Gaming's contract with MS is the major hindrance to MLG's support of Halo 4.
And if you actually took the time to read what the MLG pros think of Halo 4, you would have known that the large majority of them agree that Halo 4 has the tightest game mechanics out of all the Halo game in the series.

And I don't understand how you can say that Halo 4 is the "worst selling Halo game." If you actually took the time to study some of the sales charts from all the Halo games, you would have realized that Halo 4 is actually the fastest-selling Halo title to date. I don't know where you are pulling your numbers from, buddy...

If you've got that much time to write numerous walls of words, you should take a little time to brush up on actual facts before making such large assumptions and making a fool of yourself.

Allsystemgamer4114d ago

Your an idiot. Halo 4 is the quickest sellin halo and it's only been out for a few months and its player count often matches that of the latest cod.

Although your piece rather comedic. It's an Amazing thing the Internet. Allowing dumb people to voice their opinion and say they are right with out ever having to bring any facts at all.

20$ says you wouldn't be caught dead saying the stuf you do on the net IRL.

LAWSON724113d ago

My god people are so good w/ talkin bullshit

omi25p4113d ago

Here you are again.

Jesus chirst every single Halo 4 article you are here complaining.

You haven't even played the f*cking game so shut the f*ck up.

IAMERROR4113d ago

you and supersonic need to find some hobbies haha
Trolling or not the shit you guys spew out is retarded and frankly I would like to believe you guys have something better to do with your time.

TekoIie4113d ago (Edited 4113d ago )

Well he has been caught red handed submitting a negative Halo article. Which pretty much answers the question as to whether or not he has anything better to do :3

http://n4g.com/user/news/st...

Besides Sony fanboys are loving Metacritic ever since Halo 4 began getting troll reviews. Just before release someone tried to submit the Halo 4 metacritic page as an article.

IAMERROR4113d ago

haha Wow, sounds more like an obsession.

Maybe he's a closeted Halo fan lmao! The hate is just a cover up.

StreetsofRage4113d ago (Edited 4113d ago )

LOL! Strongman's insecurity is showing. You can really feel his jealousy with all his posts. Quite funny. Just mark him for trolling and move on.

Anyway, you can say goodbye to MLG and welcome in a whole new era of competition gaming with Virgin Gaming. Halo is the main draw in MLG afterall.

Good, call of duty is more popular then halo anyways

Allsystemgamer4114d ago

If popularity meant good I guess you love Justin bieber and the twilight movies.

lastofgen4114d ago

Couldn't have said it better myself.

ItsTrue4113d ago

ZING! You certainly deserve a bubble for that!

Shadonic4114d ago

Its more popular now. After Halo stopped beating its ass in reach and even then bungie wasent really trying with thatand still put up a fight. Cod has to come out every year to keep its spot with rehash after rehash of the same thing Halo kept its spot even with cod still there and it was releasing every 2-3 years its quality not quantity and popularit dosent mean anything look at justin beiber.

OC_MurphysLaw4114d ago

The irony is apparently BLOPS2 is. ...

Mainsqueeze4113d ago

Yeah that's the saddest part of it all man...COD has such an un-competitive low skill cap MP when compared to Halo or any other game on the MLG circuit. COD mp can be fun but my god is it easy to be good at.

supersonicjerry4113d ago

If its easy to be good at go play in some GB tournaments or 360icons tournaments. We have seen CoD pro Players go play halo and become a pro at it yet to see halo pros come top8 in cod lan events with actually pros there.

Mainsqueeze4113d ago (Edited 4113d ago )

Name 1 CoD pro that went pro in Halo. Or came anywhere near the top 8 or hell even top 32. Its never happened...ever. I honestly don't see how you could say CoD is any where near as competitive or has as high of a skill cap as Halo when in CoD u can kill some one in less than half a second with any weapon in the game. Any 12 year old kid could go positive in a CoD game by camping...Either way its going to be a loss for MLG to have CoD since its main stage will have like what 15-20 ppl max watching, o well i guess people will need some place to sit down and rest between watching LoL and SC2. Casual CoD is fun and addictive but competitively its a joke.

Hufandpuf4113d ago

I didn't like Halo 4's multiplayer imo. I hope they will still keep Reach in rotation though.

That won't stop me enjoying a bit is SWAT :)

Master Chief Became More Than A Machine In 343's Halo

In Halo 4, 5, and Infinite, Master Chief became a more nuanced, human character.

In spite of the Halo series’ struggles, 343 deserves praise for adding nuance and characterisation to the ever-beating heart of Halo - The Master Chief. Playing through Infinite, it's abundantly clear that the events of the current and previous trilogies have irrevocably changed the iconic hero. He’s no longer the ‘blank slate’ that was previously presented by Bungie. He’s a fatigued, damaged and fallible protagonist, and one who is meandering through currents of grief, while reveling in his newfound agency. Giving the Chief a compelling and meaningful voice was no small feat, and 343 should be proud of that victory.

This article completely misses part of the appeal of the original iteration of character in the original game trilogy. It was the Chief and Cortana vs an entire alien collective. The blank slate Bungie displayed in their games was genius, he was an mysterious hero a wide audience could identify with because he wasn't as clearly defined as most characters.

The books added a lot of lore and backstory but most Halo players just want a fun game with exposition that doesn't get in the way of gameplay, it's why the Cortana level in Halo 3 was derided.

Not every character has to be a damaged soyboy, a soldier has to suck it up and do his duty.

BandarHub406d ago

A lot of people give the 343 version of Master Chief a lot of slack.
But Fundamentally he is still the same character, he just has a couple more dialogues. He has not changed in terms of attitude.
"Not every character has to be a damaged soyboy, a soldier has to suck it up and do his duty."
And that's what he has done at the end of the day, he did his duty. Watch his partner die, and was ready to destroy the weapon in Halo infinite....he is still the same soilder that everyone remembers

Halo Infintes one was a nice balance between both.

slate91406d ago

Chief and the halo franchise became a joke under 343

Sciurus_vulgaris406d ago

The 343i Master Chief has is based on the books. However, in Halo 4-Infinite, the Master Chief overtime become. gradually becomes more willing to show some emotion.

Obscure_Observer406d ago

"However, in Halo 4-Infinite, the Master Chief overtime become. gradually becomes more willing to show some emotion."

Which is awesome! I love how Master Chief become more John and less soldier.

Halo's Identity Problem Began With an Admirable Mess

It’s a law of nature that eventually, every long-running game franchise will have a particular entry that gets dinged for straying too far from what made it so fun in the first place. Your Super Mario Sunshine, your Dragon Age II, Assassin’s Creed III, and so on. Whether or not that opinion changes more favorably over time, the initial specter of negativity will forever hover it. Microsoft’s Halo is no exception, except that negative specter hasn’t hovered over one particular game, but one whole studio.

The3faces526d ago

True Halo 4 was a sign of 343i's incompetence and the decline of Halo.

10 Years Later, Halo 4 Proves Itself a Disappointing Omen for Halo Infinite

Halo 4 released 10 years ago today, and its disappointing reception was just an omen of things to come with 343 Industries at the helm.

Halo 4 and infinite have a 87 on metacritic and five a 84🤣. 343i need contents and everything else will play it self out.

ChasterMies534d ago

Halo 4, 5, and Infinite reviews are good examples of the pressure on review sites to score everything between 8-10 out of 10.

ChubbyBlade534d ago

As if reviews scores are any indication of a franchises health.

Halo has been in shambles for YEARS

-Foxtrot535d ago

Halo 4-6 are like the Star Wars sequel trilogy

They all just seem like a brand new games with small connections to the last one but no solid arc connecting them, you’re just told stuff that happened off screen in between the games and nothing makes sense

It’s like they didn’t plan a new trilogy out

CoNn3rB534d ago

That's actually a pretty good way to sum it up

LucasRuinedChildhood534d ago (Edited 534d ago )

I would argue that the new Star Wars trilogy is still better. lol

Most Halo fans would kill for the equivalent of The Force Awakens at this stage (a competent rehash of what came before it). Halo Infinite tried to be that but was undercooked and failed. Halo 4 wasn't that either - they started messing with the formula straight away although the story was okay.

There was nothing particularly compelling about Halo 5's story besides the fake plot they advertised. The Last Jedi is a divisive movie but as RedLetterMedia would say, it was "sporadically interesting" because it tried some new things and set up things that could have been great (like Kylo teaming up with Rey after backstabbing Snoke). That conversation with Yoda is great and it felt like the real Yoda, not that CGI thing in the prequels.
- "Skywalker, still looking to the horizon. Never here, now, hmm? The need in front of your nose."
- "The greatest teacher, failure is ... Luke, we are what they grow beyond. That is the true burden of all masters."
- "That library contained nothing that the girl Rey does not already possess." (because she already took them, haha).

The Rise Of Skywalker is the only one where loads of stuff happens off screen ("Palpatine has returned") in between and nothing makes sense because ... they just needed a main villain and 100 star destroyers to blow up. They could have done something much better.

Um, didn't Halo 4 have the best campaign out of the new Trilogy? Lol

ChubbyBlade534d ago

Yep and even then it wasn’t very good.

Levii_92534d ago

I'm getting a good gaming laptop soon and i'm finally going to play through the Halo franchise again plus Infinite but i never played Halo 4 before .. can anyone tell me how's the campaign in comparison to the games before it and compared to Halo 5 ?

Stanjara534d ago

Halo 4 campaign great, multi bad.
Halo 5 campaign trash, multi good.

Best Cortana halo 4.

ChubbyBlade534d ago (Edited 534d ago )

Halo 4 was when they started turning it into a “modern” game. Aka taking tips from CoD.

The older titles were sandbox based with weapons that all filled a niche and vehicles that did the same. Open levels with multiple ways to approach in different spots with different weapons etc.

Halo 4/5 doesn’t have that. It’s a linear shooter and nothing else. The story is alright but that’s about it. If it wasn’t a halo game, it would be ok but because it is a halo game, it’s outshone by the previous games.

It’s a hell of a lot better than 5 though. I found infinite pretty meh
