GameStop No Longer Taking Pre-Orders for Wii Games

The Wii has just about wrapped up its lifespan now that the Wii U is out, but there’s still a few games left to come out for the system. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like you’ll be able to pre-order those games. Following reports of Wii game pre-orders being discontinued, GenGAME spoke with local GameStop management, and they confirmed that their computer system no longer has a Wii section for pre-orders. (GameStop, Pandora's Tower, Wii)

Another nail in the coffin of the Wii... kinda sucks since the Wii U is backward compatible. You'd think Wii game development would be very cost effective by now and they could push some JRPG's and Indie games for it. Xenoblade and Last Story were recent games and prove there can be some great games for the Wii. I'd personally rather have Wii U games, but I understand some cannot afford to adopt right away.

It's more an issue of GameStop wanting to move on and free up space than Nintendo abandoning the Wii, I'd say. I believe Nintendo said there are no more first party games coming for the Wii, and GameStop isn't going to bother doing reserves on the few third party games that come through.

Well, you're definitely right about GameStop... they have limited shelf space, and have to have the games on display. BUT pre-orders for Wii games do not take up any space, and they can also sell online which just takes up minimal warehouse space. And the the second sentence in your comment basically negates the first sentence... with Nintendo not making anymore first party Wii games, they in effect killed the Wii off themselves. Nintendo always does this when a new console is put out. NOTE: I'm not arguing your point... you are very right about GameStop from their retail point of view, but if Nintendo was still making first party games for the Wii, GameSpot would surely be taking pre-orders still.

I agree with you there. It's hard to blame Nintendo for the rough transition period though. The Wii U is quite the interesting piece of hardware, and it's hard to get developers who are still willing to work with the outdated Wii, even if there's some potential left for it.

You can reserve Pandora's Tower at GameStop still....

The article has been updated since that confirmation was made.

Except the article is still wrong.... The Wii section for reservations in their computer is still there, and Pandora's Tower is in it.

This is why i dislike Nintendo. Once there new console is there old one is totally abadond. Sony after years of the ps3 being out it was still backed up.
