Is it me or am I the only one who wasn't really a fan of the factions in NV, don't get me wrong they were good in some parts but I think it just made the main missions more complicated as you got closer to the end, if you wanted an ending then you accidently did something like you did another main mission before the other one you were going to be stuck with a different ending.....I just thought some of the factions were a bit silly to be honest like the Kings and the Great Khans.

I think there will be better locations in the next game, with the waters of life machine turned on we might be able to see some green in the map. It might be small but at least it will make locations more varied.

Merrill4113d ago

I didn't get into Fallout NV for that reason. I preferred Fallout 3, I liked the isolation of it. I hope 4 is more like 3, with some upgrades. I wish more games used the VAT system.

Tony-Red-Grave4113d ago

#1 cause of trading FONV n 3 in..... the freggin music NV had 3 different stations.... AND THEY ALL PLAYED THE SAME THING D:. like the saying goes "1000 channels but nothing to watch"

NukaCola4113d ago

I'm torn. New Vegas had such a more rewarding quests ever. What Fallout New Vegas did with the karma system was far beyond Elder Scrolls and FO3. There was more than just black and white and neutral. No decision made was ever an easy one. Plus the three tiers of social chains was brilliant. Not just major factions, but also lower level groups like the Boomers, Kings, and Khans and then societies like Freeside, Goodsprings, etc. Fallout New Vegas had a real survival feel and more of a choice setting. Although the 4 routes weren't all as amazing as they could of been, this game felt more rewarding in that aspect. And one of the best things about FNV is that companions had stories of their own which some resulted in many quests and world exploration just for them. The game was incredible.

Then there is Fallout 3 which put a more serious emphasis on that single player experience. You always felt alone and at the end of the day, the story you played was unbelievable. It focus so well around the character and their purpose. I think they did well with the DLC as well, minus the ending results of the main game didn't reflect in Broken Steal.

Over all I love them both. Fallout 3 had the story of the decade, but New Vegas brought back a lot of what made the classic asymmetrical FO's renowned.

Man, I can't wait for Fallout 4.

BlackIceJoe4113d ago

I think this is a nice list. But I would add having your partner in battle be good in battle. I hated having to watch them so close. I think it would be neat if they could level up too or you can take them to some kind of apprenticeship where they can learn new moves.

I also want the game to come out on the next gen systems instead of the ones out now.

MaleManSam4113d ago

I agree with the more in-depth landscapes. Even though I didn't really notice it before because of how well the game played (Fallout 3) I now realise how much of the landscape was re-hashed, with only a handful of really awesome set pieces or whatever you want to call them.

They should just go crazy with it in FIV.

NukaCola4113d ago

I think they will. Look at Skyrim. Very few rehashed areas. Some of the smaller caves felt like they were similar, but you could go into a simple mine and then end up 4 hours later out the other side. I think we will see massive improvements with a new engine and next gen tech. Hopefully they will have less bugs, but they won't have the same technical limitations. And Skyrim is lush, I hope they use the engine to really show off some detailed environments.

Honestly, what scares me about FO4 is if they lose the retro 40s theme. I love that. I mean, I will love to visit New New York CyberPunk advanced city, but I still want all the comical dementedness that is Fallout.

BanBrother4113d ago

I want more particle effects. I know people are probably thinking I'm crazy, but imagine how immersed you would be in a next gen Fallout with so e crazy atmosohere, like the toxic fumes seeping through the environment, embers and ash dropping past you, something amazing.

Either way, I'm excited. Plus, no timed exclusive DLC. RPG fans DO NOT deserve to be treated like that, especially next gen, as you can't simply buy the 'other' console, as they will be expensive.

SnakeCQC4113d ago

i want insane weapon customizations and less bugs

Fallout 4 – Why Was it So Divisive?

The RPG has seen an explosion in popularity thanks to Amazon's TV show, but it was Bethesda's most controversial Fallout for a long time.

I loved it. And I platinum'd it. I guess it's like most "divisive" games. If you don't like it, so what? Let those that do, enjoy it.

Eonjay21h ago(Edited 21h ago)

The article is trying to create fud where there was none. It has an 87 meta (on PS4). There is nothing divisive about it. It was well received. Period. I don't remember any arguments except for some performance issues when it first came out. Thats it.

VenomUK19h ago

I really enjoyed Fallout 4.
I loved the halfway goal of what you are building towards. I had a good sense of what it was and then when you finally are almost there the music builds up - beautiful!

@Eonjay Forget the meta scores there are plenty of people who loved Fallout 3 but thought Fallout 4 was a bit of anticlimax and I do get it. Pete Hines the retired head of Bethesda's PR was even asked about it, and his answer was that it was because it simply didn't have the novelty of being brand new that Fallout 3 had.

Profchaos11h ago

No venture beyond that so many of the hardcore gatekeep the franchise hard as 4 was far more popular and simplified many of the rpg elements refined shooting to the point where vats was optional the game was far more accessible and sold the most out of every franchise entry to date.

It's my personal favourite I get why people love 3 or NV but I do hate seeing people crap on 4 and the people who like it.

neutralgamer19924h ago

It was a good shooter especially coming from FO3/NV game wise improvements wise but it was a below average RPG and that’s where many felt ROG elements should have been deeper

CantThinkOfAUsername1d 1h ago

Whatever they do, Fallout 5 is guaranteed to be dogsh*t.

GamerRN17h ago

What are you basing that off of?

CantThinkOfAUsername5h ago

- Fallout 4's story, characters, dialogue, and quests. They even managed to make the Vaults boring.
- Fallout 76 is Fallout 4 online. Same crap.
- Starfield doubled down on the crappiness of all these aspects despite being a new IP.

People bought and liked all of these games, which sends the message that we want more of this. I don't know about you, but I don't like being treated as a child and my intelligence insulted by developers.

ChasterMies1d 1h ago

Fallout 4 wasn’t so much divisive as not very good. But there aren’t many first person RPGs so what else are fans of the genre supposed to play?

FPS_D3TH1d 1h ago (Edited 1d 1h ago )

I think it was the lack of morality gameplay and lack of path to completion options compared to what fallout 3 and New Vegas offered. I think the issue mostly arose because of the voiced protagonist and how many lines of dialogue that needed to be recorded. Didn’t leave for many options beyond “good” “sarcastic douche” and the odd question or two for nearly every interaction. Personally I thought the game was fantastic as an adventure and exploration game, I liked the park system and base building, but the rpg aspects were fairly gutted. It made shooting much more tolerable too but it still wasn’t anything fantastic. The faction choices were ok and I felt like they all provided a more grey moral choice dilemma compared to older games which felt more good/evil but it wasn’t presented as such as prominently as I would’ve liked. You had to do some more internal and critical thinking of your own to come to decide why you’d support one faction over another unless you were in it just for some in game benefit or another.

kneon15h ago

I didn't like any of the factions, so when it got to the point that I had to choose, I chose to stop playing

jznrpg14h ago(Edited 14h ago)

I finished the game but you are correct. I was thinking I don’t really know which one to pick as I don’t really care for any of them. I was near the Institute so I just went with that quest line. A lame way to choose who will win but I didn’t really prefer one over the others

EazyC8h ago

I don't think FNV was good/evil. You have evil with Caesar's Legion, then everything else is different shades of grey imo and quite relative to your own political views! 😅

Friendlygamer1d ago (Edited 1d ago )

1 Bad writing, the main quest is terrible. The sense of urgency of the story is at odds with the open world nature of the game

2 Boring, bland factions

3 too much personality for the main character. The game decides that you're married, that you love your son, your voice... a rpg like fallout should have a blank slate mc

4 dead open world. Fallout 3 and nv have a bunch of small cities and locations on their maps that give you interesting quests and dialogue. In Fallout 4 it feels like 80 per cent of the map is focused on combat and environmental storytelling, it feels more like a post apocalyptic action game rather than a dialogue heavy rpg

Fallout 4 is a very fun open world fps with really cool environmental storytelling but a very poor rpg

Got it installed on my PS5 ready for this. Not sure I'll play it very much though because I didn't like the settlements feature, it just never seemed to gel with me.

Looking forward to giving it a shot though

just_looken2d ago

Use manual saves keep them backed up on ps4 it was a crasher

Just a fyi

Barlos2d ago

Hopefully it won't be after the update. Mind you it'll probably introduce some new bugs 🤣

Yui_Suzumiya1d 13h ago

I was lucky and had minimal bugs at launch in 2015. I got the platinum trophy a month after launch.

Seth_hun2d ago

You probably need to download the native ps5 version, its not just a patch

Abear211d 20h ago

This was my question, article states it’s a native version so will need to re-download when it releases.

Hoping it’s not a Bethesda buggy mess as the game has been out forever, but not holding my breath. Also unsure if saves will transfer, unlikely as again it’s a new version of the game

banger881d 17h ago

"Not sure I'll play it very much though because I didn't like the settlements feature, it just never seemed to gel with me."

Doing the settlement related crap isn't mandatory, feel free to ignore it.

anast2d ago

Hopefully it's playable by now.

just_looken2d ago

tod: Can you load the start menu?

q&a: yes

Todd: does it load in allow you to move?

Q&a: yes

Tod: Great its gone gold ship it that is the quality we here strive for.

TheEroica1d 8h ago

Naughty dog would've charged us 70 bucks for this. Thank you Bethesda!

anast1d 5h ago

@Eroica

It's free because they are going to let AI do most of the work.

23h ago
Barlos2d ago

It was always playable for me on my PS4 Pro. I don't recall any issues aside from the usual 'Bethesda Bugs'. Nothing even close to game breaking.

just_looken1d 20h ago

Now yes but first year it was very bad and you had to watch the save file size

Barlos1d 20h ago (Edited 1d 20h ago )

@just_looken

No I mean even back then, I can't recall any significant issues. Funny thing with the save file size is there were serious problems with Skyrim on PS3 because of the save file, until it was patched. Seems that Bethesda just don't learn.

Abear211d 20h ago

Far Harbor was barely playable on Pro for me, it was a slide show in the fog. I’ve been waiting for this patch for what seems like forever!

1d 16h ago
brando0082d ago

Tried to play it again on PS4 last week to finish Far Harbour, the game kept crashing on launch. Hopefully this new patch let's me start the game lol

Abear211d 19h ago (Edited 1d 19h ago )

If Far Harbor is butter smooth and this baby has a smooth release overall I’ll take back everything terrible I ever said about Bethesda. This is the best game they put out in the last ten years. Still betting on a Day one patch incoming though and probably more to come. They should allow pre load bc their servers are gonna get boinked.

Profchaos1d 10h ago

Yeah far harbour on the PS4 was playable for me but wow did that fog cause significant slowdown killed off any desire to explore and instead I would go point to point as fast as possible.

gold_drake2d ago

theres not rly much to know, other than the update comes out next week haha

Abear211d 20h ago

Here’s the one Pro Tip you need—play as Evil, it’s impossible to keep track of who you are supposed to be for and against with all the Factions—I say F them all and play Evil so it’s no stress! Lol

kneon1d 19h ago

I never finished the game because I got to the point where the game really wanted me to pick a side, I didn't want to side with anyone so I just stopped playing. It's pretty rare for me not to finish a game, but it just got boring.

6 Red Dead Redemption 2 (Rockstar)
7 Hogwarts Legacy (Warner Bros)
8 Fallout 76 (Bethesda)
9 Fallout: New Vegas (Bethesda)
10 Fallout 3 (Bethesda)

anast4d ago

RDR2 in the top ten is impressive. Bethesda games will drop off the list in a month.

thesoftware7303d ago

Lol, you hate Bethesda so much now because they are owned by MS, not realizing that those games are all on PS, that most likely the reason they are back on the list, which by the way is excellent for 3 single players games that is really old...so your salt means nothing, we don't expect them to be on the list for months, shit we didn't expect to be on the list now given how old they are.

Bravo to a successful franchise and now T.V show.

anast3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

I'm not lying. The longevity of RDR2 is impressive. The Bethesda games will drop in a month.

KyRo3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

@Thesoftware. No people people have disliked Bethesda way before MS. Ever since Fallout 3 they've released buggy, broken, graphically dates, poorly animated, terribly voice acted games. The difference is the scale of the game when FO3 dropped was still fresh. In 2024, games standards have risen and people won't give Bethesda a free pass whilst the rest of the industry has got betterans in many ways surpassed them.

dumahim3d ago

I was tempted to fire up FO4, but then remembered the settlements, and raider attacks and crap like that. Then I found out about FO London coming out soon, then that got delayed.

ZeekQuattro4d ago

I've been playing FO3 and NV and will no doubt start up 4 again when the current gen patch drops.

neutralgamer19924d ago

There was a rumor that Bethesda maybe doing FO3/NV remastered collection. I hope they do and bring some quality of life improvements. Both games are awesome but could be better if done right given the remastered treatment

ZeekQuattro3d ago

I don't mind the backwards compatible versions on the Microsoft store honestly. Both 3 and NV have quick load times and FPS boost. I originally played FO3 on the PS3 so it felt like a different game to me with those changes alone. My FO3: GOTY expierence on the PS3 was bad enough I didn't even bother with NV until I got a XBO.

I wouldn't say no to a remaster however. Feels like now would be the time to announce it what with a hit show boosting awareness for the IP. We'll see what happens.

Duke194d ago

Loving the show and it 100% has me itching to boot up a FO again. The only question is whether to replay 3, NV or 4

Michiel19893d ago

The show is really good, it's everything I expect from a video game adaptation. The main audience being the fans of the franchise, new viewers not being the target audience was not what I was expecting.

Demetrius3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

They been doing good on game love action series nowadays that's wassup I'm glad they managed to catch the fallout vibe in the show
