Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition for PC is now on Steam

Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition has been released on Steam. The redux version of Bioware’s classic was released on Windows in November last year but only via Beamdog which is a smaller download store.

A decision was taken by publisher Atari to sell it on Steam. Oster said on Twitter “So, working with our partners at Atari, after many requests, we’ve managed to bring BGEE to Steam.”

Overhaul Games is also trying to negotiate with Atari to allow current owners of BGEE be given a Steam key.

They should have done this from the get-go.

Seems like that the people behind the game did not get so much money for having the game exclusively on Beamdog.

Now, I consider myself to be a relatively informed gamer... and I don't even know wtf beamdog is.

Beamdog is Trent Oster's own company. It's a download service similar to Steam but obviously smaller in scale that they've been operating for years. It just makes sense that if you wanted to promote your download service, if you also have a huge title like Baldur's Gate under your control you'd make it available there first to help raise awareness of your service. They would have been crazy not to.

If they had released it on Steam and Beamdog, who the hell would have downloaded the title on Beamdog? What the hell's that? I'm downloading on Steam. If you make it available on Beamdog first, you force Baldur's Gate fans to try their service if they want the game early. It makes perfect sense.
