Pokémon Should Learn From Skylanders

GenGAME writes: Recently, the Skylanders franchise has been making quite a bit of noise. The collectible nature of it, as well as its strong appeal with younger audiences, has it drawing comparisons to Pokémon. The young franchise has already generated over $500 million in America alone, and it’s quickly becoming Pokémon-esque in popularity.

The Pokémon franchise is still doing phenomenally well in its own right, and there’s no need for Game Freak to fear the competition, but Pokémon could learn a thing or two from Skylanders

The story is too old to be commented.

While I think I might like augmented reality cards of pokemon that served to make battling your pokemon in real life environments possible, I definitely don't want to have to collect toys, or to have to spend a lot of extra money in order to play.

If you mean a spin off like Pokemon the Trading Card game then I'm cool with that. But in no way do I want to have to pay for toys to play a main Pokemon game. Hell no.

Certainly it would be a mistake to make any core gameplay features or required elements to be pay-to-play, but just as extras.

This formula would definitely work well for spin-off titles. Remember the TCG for GameBoy Color? Why not revive that idea on the 3DS?

Agreed. fun as a spin off, but not the main game
