The problem with the "Strong Female Character"

Steven Hansen writes, "I’ve read the phrase “strong female character” enough in game journalism over the last year or two that the term itself has become tacit; rendered inert, perhaps, by the banality of activism. #kony2012. The sentiment is as welcome as ever, but reading Victoria Hiley’s “A strong female character.” just last night has snapped me back to a very muddled, complex reality. We’ve hardly begun to take the collective steps in addressing the issue so much as finally gotten enough people to admit that there is one, and that’s always the easiest part of what is a Herculean task." (Bayonetta, Bayonetta 2, Industry, PC, PS3, Tomb Raider, Xbox 360)

Frankly the whole debate is littered with confusion. It's not something that can be 'fixed' by conscious thought or action IMO because what that mostly results in is a brigade of feminism-defending guys with no balls to speak of who drown out the legitimate concerns of people with more than three brain cells. If they're not the ones barreling down on the situation then it's the cave men they're trying to disprove who thump their two inch dicks on the table like their pre-pubescent misogyny is new, novel, or interesting to any one who isn't a total tool.

Between these there is nothing but a slew of self-interest. Self-interest that permeates the literature and encourages a divide - whether it's race, or class or gender, and it means everyone's arguing for what they think is right and it invalidates the whole point of not taking women for granted. Elevating them onto some almighty high place is just another way of owning them so this 'strong female character' lark won't solve anything. Not when half the time it's just a guy's interpretation of what that involves. There is no magical character who'll satisfy everyone so I don't even see the point trying. Just write a damn story and focus on what concerns you, as a person, and not on what is of concern to your genitals.

we need more females in game like i know i might shit for this but like females war fighters in COD or Battlefield series. im sure that a females in BF3 saying "AC-130! take it down!" or "get that motherfucker!" is kinda cool same goes with COD.
