Entries for MGS V: The Phantom Pain have appeared on PlayAsia – are they the same game?

"Talk about an odd day. We don't normally comment on rumors, but this one seems legitimate enough to write on. A user on NeoGAF has spotted an odd discrepancy where Metal Gear Solid V receives the subtitle The Phantom Pain. And this is somewhat surprising, considering that we've believed the Phantom Pain to be a different game than MGSV. Could they be the same?" (Dev, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, PS3, Xbox 360)

After all this time and evidence this website still doesn't believe The Phantom Pain is an MGS game? About it being a subtitle, maybe.

Hey there Gill. I wrote the article, so I wanted to comment on your thoughts. I didn't think it was a new IP, but a different game in the MGS universe. Where and how - I wasn't sure. But I wasn't convinced that MGSV and The Phantom Pain were the same. This listing pushes me towards believing they're the same, but, until Kojima announces it officially, I'll be skeptic.

I don't think the article mentions a new IP anywhere, so, if that was confusing, I apologize!

Thanks for the note.

Oh, no problem. The line that confused me was the following:

"And this is somewhat surprising, considering that we’ve believed the Phantom Pain to be a different game than MGSV. Could they be the same?"

It only really confused me because the picture of the cropped in Metal Gear Solid V into the screen cap of The Phantom Pain has been around since the VGAs.

Of course it's a subtitle, unless we're to believe they have 3 new MGS games in development.

Wow, if true then they're really pushing the franchise, 3 games in a couple of years? I can't wait to play them all!

It uses the same cover as Ground Zeroes.

3 games in a few years? Are you actually serious? KJ pump out a MGS ever3 -5 years. Not 3 in a row. And why do the dummies on the net still belive they aint the same game?

That to me looks like the guys at play asia based their information off the rumours. The image is that one that was edited by NeoGAF users. I suspect PlayAsia know as much as we do, and have just assumed.

kojima always does this, He never releases a game the following year, all his games last for 2-3years before the next one comes out, MGS:5 will change online gaming.

Not saying it isn't real but didn't they also list Diablo 3 for PS3 a while ago?
