Nintendo’s Spin on Wii U Launch Sales Suggests They’re Emphasizing Value, Not Volume

GenGAME writes: "It’s tempting to look at the diminished sales volume of Wii U compared to Wii and GameCube, both in the hardware and software department, and conclude that Nintendo’s in dire straits. But the fact that Nintendo’s decided to focus on highlighting their increased Wii U revenues tells us something different: they see the situation as actually favorable. And judging by the fact that Nintendo’s stock prices have actually climbed in light of this news, that’s something we should look at more closely." (Nintendo, Wii U)

Time to get some software rolling then. The Wii U has a respectable install base for a recently launched system (it's not all doom and gloom) but they've got to build on that.

Dire straights ?

mmmm it outsold the ps3 and 360 launch and fell JUST short of the wii, tell me how that is dire straights ?

Sick of explaining this now... But the wiiu launch WASa moderate success , it wasn't dire it wasn't record breaking it was moderate. OK ? Now please journalist's just stfu and leave the wiiu be....

You'll have to keep explaining because accurate, common sense posts tend to get ignored around here ;) But you're right, apparently the Wii set a sales benchmark that all future consoles have to beat, otherwise they're a failure O_o

Its sad to know that you are going to get disagreed and bubbled down to hell and back for stating this.

Launches don't mean jack squat. How they finish means everything.

Hell they sold tons of Wii's but look how that ended barely any developers or any at all even support the machine. I mean Nintendo has straight up said they aren't making anymore Wii games which I think is bull crap for the people who still own them and play them frequently.

I mean the Wii U just came out and they are already kicking their other console to the curb.

Little things like that always remind me why Nintendo sells so well because they are one of the greediest companies around but I blame Reggie for all of this, not strictly Nintendo.

I can't stand that sleaze bag Reggie he is nothing but a car salesman in my eyes, of the worst kind.

By no means am I saying the Wii U can't be more successful than the Wii was but I am just saying it matters more how you finish the race, not how you start it.

I don't think Reggie is the reason why a Japanese video game company stopped seriously making games for their system over a year before the next generation console was released...
good luck to nintendo.
