CES 2013: Razer Edge Gaming Tablet Hands On, First Impressions @ Custom PC Review

CPCR: After Project Fiona’s announcement in CES 2012, it quietly disappeared for the rest of the year and quite frankly, I thought Project Fiona was something that’d be shelved for all eternity. Thankfully, I was wrong. It seemed like Razer engineers had been working hard on the concept as they’ve designed a new tablet from the ground up, crowd-sourced a bunch of ideas and gave it a much nicer name. What they came up with was the Razer Edge. (PC, Razer, Tech)

The versatility of this device makes it pretty neat, actually.

I totally agree. I would buy one if I could afford it. Alas.

It only has 1 hour of battery life playing a full 3d game...if it had 4 or 5 hours and was around 500 or 600 i might think of buying it but you wont see me paying 1200 for it with only 1 hour of gaming and its not light.

The screen's resolution makes it a no buy for me, and while it's nice to use a dedicated GPU as opposed to using intel HD graphics, the GT640m-LE doesn't look like much of a powerhouse (according to benchmarks).

I think tablet PCs will be great for gaming at some point down the road, I just don't think it's worth it at the moment. Hopefully, around next year, technology will make it possible to have better specs in these tablets.

Considering it's a tablet, that can run full blown pc games...720p is pretty great. The 360 and ps3 can barely pull that resolution off most of the time.

Guess you don't realise the importance of Frame rates. The current sweet spot is 1920x1080 for pure speed/quality of PC games.

For a device like this to run games at the resolution it does is good, you don't want games running like crap and at 20-30 fps.. you need as close to 60 or a constant 60 for buttery smooth play.

Besides you act as if such a resolution is bad, it is not at all.. if you want to play slideshows though be my guest.

I do realise the importance of framerate in games, but while this is sold as a gaming tablet, it is still to be used a an everyday tablet as well. Below 1080p on a 10 inches screen is a subpar experience for windows 8. Considering the price tag, I for one wouldn't buy it only to play games on it, I would expect it to be a very good Win8 tablet overall as well.

Also, just because the screen has a resolution of 1080p, it doesn't mean you can't play games at 720p on it. And, with the GT640m-LE, you'll be lucky if you run a game made in the last 2 years at 60 FPS on low settings at 720p anyway.

The fact that it's a tablet it's a no buy the fact that it's trying to play PC games but it's still outdated just adds to the fire.
