Wii U price cut vs More Wii U games

In March of 2011, Nintendo released the 3DS handheld system. The price was 249.99 USD. That price point, which certainly was astronomical, did not last more than six months before Nintendo took nearly 80 dollars off the price. Was that needed? No. What they did not attempt to do was put out meaningful games that people wanted to buy the handheld for. There was the less than stellar launch line up, and not much else when they announced the price drop. Even when the system was reduced for sale the public was not that happy about it either. Many had just bought the system no more than six months ago for a considerable amount more.

I already own a Wii U, so a price cut is rather needless for me. More games please.

LOL_WUT1355d ago

That may be true for you, but i'am sure that for many others it'll be a nice welcome. ;)

Whilst some may feel £300 is out of their reach , I think it's very reasonable for a brand new console with a tablet controller.

Infact Nintendo is selling it a loss already so I don't think we will see a price cut until their manufacturing cost's go down. Maybe it will be $269 and $319 or something by this time next year...

It just needs more games. BIG sellers. Smash bros is in development and that will be BIG.

Smash bros , Pikmin 3 , Bayonetta 2 , etc will do big things for wiiu sales.

@LOL_WUT

It is true for me. I was speaking exclusively for myself lol.

Like with any system, if there is a multitude of games that people want to play on it, people will buy that platform. Once the more big name and AAA experiences start coming out for the Wii U, I reckon the sales will pick up.

@PopRocks359

And where are those AAA titles going to come from? We already know the Wii U lost out on two of them, and they barely have any users buying Madden and Call of Duty Black Ops II.

You should take the price cut. I won't even touch the Wii U games coming out in the next three months to save what dignity you Wii U owners have left.

Nintendo always have and always will be about the 1st party games with their consoles.

There hasn't been any massive fuss over 3rd party releases on Nintendo's platform since it was the N64 when it was getting 007, WWF, Resident Evil, Mortal Kombat etc. But even then it was still all about the 1st parties.

I think most people realise this but still want a Wii U anyway.

I imagine most people who currently own a Wii U are quite content with their current games and potential future 1st party titles, the firstwave of HD Mario and Zelda's for example will be huge.

So obviously Wii U owners don't mind the lack of 3rd party, it has always been that way and the lack of attention being drawn the big 3rd party games snubbing Wii U just backs that up.

It's already been sold at a loss keep dreaming for a price cut guys it's already cheap as chips it's sold over 3million in just over a month ??? that target of 5 million by march is a very easy task try 8 million.

I bought the WiiU 3 days ago,and yes I agree with you,I need more GAMES ! sticking with only Super Mario Bros U and Zombie U (combined with Nintendo Land) is just NOT enough :( !

And seriously I like each one of these games (but Zombie U is annoying .. killing a zombie with up to 9 hits is just stupid and feels more like a chore !)

I want a new Mario kart !!! PLEASE

ShaunCameron1355d ago

The Wii U needs more games, I say.

The author's right about the 3DS. The real problem with it at launch wasn't the price. It was the the lack of games to justify its original price tag. It didn't start selling until the new games came around.

kirbyu1355d ago

How bout some better games AND drop the price. That oughta work.

GribbleGrunger1355d ago (Edited 1355d ago )

You could have a price cut tomorrow but you can't just miraculously develop games in 24 hours. The Wiiu has only just released and it will take time to develop games, so it's pointless asking for one or the other. They ARE mutually exclusive. I doubt that Nintendo will drop the price considering the Wiiu is the first console they're actually losing money on. They'll wait for the software support. Then we'll have a better idea of how well it is doing.

rainslacker1354d ago

I think if they want to keep it in the minds of people going into the next generation, a price cut will be further off than people are predicting. Even with the release of the 720 and PS4 Nintendo is likely going to be the cheapest option. If they drop the price down too low, people will stop seeing it as a next gen console (disregarding that actual debate on here of course).

One thing they will have when the 720 and PS4 come out is likely a bigger catalog of games that will appeal to more people. So in response to this article, games are more important.

ziggurcat1355d ago

the thing is barely 2 months old and people are already crying for a price cut?

metroid321354d ago (Edited 1354d ago )

It's haters that want to see price cut because you loose 3rd party support if your console is alot cheaper than say ps4 ect premium games tend to shy away from the cheaper console so keep it real Ninty £250/£300 is fair.

Lego City
Aliens CM
Wonerful 101
Beyonetta 2
Project cars
Pikimin 3
Walking dead
Rayman legends
Monster hunter ultimate

Then we have the games we know nothing about like the Stunning new game being shown in ONM in a few weeks ??

Ingram1354d ago (Edited 1354d ago )

Nonsense, premium games and BEST developers tend to shy away from the weakest hardware, not from the cheapest one.

MOST developers though, third parties, flock to the best selling hardware so they can maximize their return -and the best selling hardware is the cheapest, not the most powerful-.
