Pokémon Doesn’t Need a 3D World

GenGAME writes: "The 3D style used in Pokémon X & Y seems caught between two worlds – it’s muddy and at the same time feels like it’s trying to carry over the 2D look into fully 3D graphics. Given what we’ve seen so far, the world of Pokémon X & Y looks like it might as well have remained 2D."

I was going to write that exact same comment. XD

Golly, I wonder if that is because it's the least original comment ever conceived?

I agree with the article that this hybrid isn't all that attractive, but I would like a full-fledged 3D title on Wii U!

haha.

Pokemon doesn't NEED a 3D world. That doesn't mean it isn't worth trying out though, or that people don't WANT one. Want and need are different....Nobody needs anything except, food , water, shelter...

I really like the 3d change and emphasis, but I really do hope the 3d traveling works out smoothly and works just as fast and efficient as the original games.

And most of all, I hope it isn't frustrating to navigate. That's one of the many things I enjoy about pokemon rpg games: the easy navigation and overall visual sense of the area.

***"And the overall world design doesn’t seem to have changed much. Aside from the camera showing more things in the distance, I’m not sure I would have really been able to tell that the game was a serious first step into the world of 3D. It looks to be more or less laid out in the same grid-like fashion we’ve always known. If that’s the case, why bother making it 3D at all? At least in 2.5D games the 3D graphics have the benefit of fleshing out the level backgrounds with intense levels of detail – here we don’t even get that. Visually, it’s a Pokémon game through and through, just with low-res 3D models instead of the usual 2D sprites. There’s nothing design-wise that couldn’t have been done with 2D graphics."***

Please wait until we are closer to release which is when we'll have more footage of the game at our disposal before we judge.

I sort of had the same same feelings at first too, but then I realized that it's too early to say this should have just been left in 2D. Besides they need to start somewhere with 3D right? They have to make this attempt at 3D eventually and they'll approve upon it as the series goes on.

................and Call Of Duty doesn't NEED a new engine.

I'm a Pokemon fan, but am disappointed at the extreme lack of anything 'new' and fresh. As long as people keep buying them, they have no reason to 'improve'.

I think it does need this 3D world, as it has me excited. The first time I have been excited for a Pokemon game in years. If only they could make a 3D world for the Wii U, that would make me happy.

They've never let us down before with main entries. I'm going to give it a shot regardless. Though... I hope there is an option to change the camera to overhead.
