Sony Executive anticipates "PlayStation important announcement" for a few months

Emol: "During our visit to Las Vegas could see not only new products but we also had a few minutes to talk to some of the top executives of major technology company.

One of those meetings was with Hiroshi Sakamoto, vice president of Home Entertainment at Sony, who beat us in a brief interview with an important announcement on the PlayStation area only a few months."

Yeah, late 2014 makes sense. It'll give me more time to save up.

Summons751981d ago

I totally ment to agree with you but my phone is really dumb sometimes :(

But yeah I'd want them to release in 2014. That way it gives gamers time to save and them time to hype/ get a strong launh line up. Everyone wins. To many great games releasing all year anyway for a 2013 release. I want a great price point (300 being the highest maybe 350), ps3 backwards compatibility plus Psn store downloads full comparable.

jimbobwahey1981d ago

I disagree that late 2014 makes sense, solely because Sony now knows how dangerous it is to let your competition get a head start. Sure, they could be a year late out the gate again but it would only make things more difficult for them.

The PS3 for example was scheduled to release a year earlier than it actually did, and go head-to-head with the Xbox 360. The only reason they launched so long afterwards is due to manufacturing issues, not by choice.

I think that willingly launching a year later than the next Xbox would be complete and utter madness on Sony's behalf, and also goes against earlier comments by executives stating that they won't be repeating the mistake of a late launch again.

I'm of the personal opinion that a launch in 2014 (be it late or early) would not be a wise decision for a company that's dealing with financial hardship. If anything I think that they should be trying to get it out as fast as possible to work on their install base and developer/publisher support.

Y_51501981d ago

Logic. You have to understand that they'll have around half a year to save up. If people really want it they'll get it or have been already saving up.

Summons75. I'm sure they got the games down when Guerrilla games, Sucker Punch, Naughty Dog (Uncharted 3 team), Polyphony Digital and probably a few small ones in the mix as well has projects that we do not know about. Most could be coming during the launch window on the new Playstation.

UnholyLight1981d ago (Edited 1981d ago )

Lol @ Summons75's comment: "I want a great price point 300 being the highest maybe 350".

Sorry but I just don't see that happening. Yeah when PS3 released in Canada and my buddy and his dad bought one for $650 that was insane for the time, but I am sorry to say that I feel like Sony and Microsoft will BOTH release in a higher range than $300. There's just no way if us gamers want a kickass console that blows this gen out of the water that it will be around $300. The WII U is $350 for the Deluxe!!!! If anything I will be happy if they slot in some between the $450-$550 range, especially with the specs they will be pushing.

Just an extra thought, with the amount of demand that has been exponentially growing over the last 2 years for a new console it probably won't matter that much from a business perspective what price point they release at as long as it's under the price for upper level iPad (a little below $700). People will eat up whatever price point they choose, it would be best if they kept it low and cost effective but I can see them almost taking advantage of the extremely high demand they will be meeting.

Launching at $350 doesnt give them a lot of wiggle room to drop their prices much over the life of the console IMO.

ElectricKaibutsu1981d ago

I half agree with you. I think it will definitely be $400+ (probably more towards the +) but I doubt they'll release another PlayStation for $600. I'd say $499 max. They most likely aren't using the cell again so that should save some money there.

knowyourstuff1981d ago

lol not all gamers are living on minimum wage and lift with their parents, if you can't afford a PS4 then wait till it inevitably goes down in price.

NobleTeam3601981d ago

If it did come out in 2014 then early 2014 would be the latest I see them launching, late 2014 would give the Wii U and if the 720 is out to much of an advantage.

Sarcasm1980d ago

I'm making $25 an hour working at a REAL JOB. I was shocked when my neighbour told me she was averaging $10 but I see how it works now. I feel so much freedom now that I'm employed. This is what I do..

DeadlyFire1980d ago (Edited 1980d ago )

Late 2014? No. At the latest it will be early 2014.

Q4 2013 seems like almost certain for launch of both consoles. If one is bumped into 2014. Latest I see launch is Q2 2014.

portal_21980d ago

Apparently Q4 2013 is a dead cert. This would mean Jan-March 2014 by Japans fiscal year.

bicfitness1980d ago

If they miss Xmas with the Nexbox and Wii U out, they are irreparably stupid and I won't be buying one until I see how it all pans out (not well, I imagine). This, coming from someone who traditionally buys Sony hardware (not a fanboy, but I definitely favour their games and services). We've already seen what a headstart cost them last gen.

I see them revealing it at E3. But with the AAA guys keeping their next consoles games secret, the Wii U coming out 2 years before the next PS/Xbox?, and the lack of titles from Sony after May (Also, no confirmed multiplats for them after June as well, No COD aanounced yet, no official time frames for next gen games like MGS G0, Crysis 3 or WatchDogs...I can believe they just might drop the next Playstation (and Xbox too) this Christmas. I am excited. I hope for something to tease what's coming!

PinkFunk1981d ago

Hehe yes @ above.

I always love E3 time. Get myself some beer/wine, and a pizza, and plant myself for the conference. A PS4 announcement would be succulent sweet!

...also unrelated, can't wait for Walking Dead AMC in February!

ILive1981d ago

The PS4 is coming people. He just pretty much said it.

AngelicIceDiamond1981d ago

Yep, I think it confirms May as a potential PS4 announcement.

ziggurcat1981d ago

it's no surprise that they're going to announce the next system at E3 this year. it was pretty evident when they didn't last year (despite people's claims based on zero evidence, much like the 2013 release date claims).

i've been saying for a little more than a year now on this site (that has been met with copious amounts of disagrees) - we will not see the next system on the market until 2014 (likely late 2014). an E3 announcement last year would've meant a release date this year, but since there was no announcement, i think it's pretty evident that it's not coming out this year.

ILive1981d ago

Just because they announced a console this year doesn't mean it won't release this year. Early 2014 is the latest I think Sony will go. I understand how some might feel that it is too early for new consoles because the PS3 makes you feel that way, especially if you just got one not so long ago. But the fact is that it is really time for new consoles. They are long over due.

greenlantern28141981d ago

early 2014 the next xbox will be out late this year than my guess is ps4 around march of 2014. as i said just a guess but sony has a history of not being first or cheapest. that being said i will be getting one the day it comes out whenever that is

Walker1981d ago

I'm really hoping they do not show pre-rendred-CGI demonstrate in E3 2013 just like E3 2005 !

shutUpAndTakeMyMoney1981d ago

Know what would make me mad? A ps3 super super slim fresh announced at e3.

TAURUS-5551980d ago

who cares if nextbox is released earlier? PS4 will be more powerful and a truly next gen console, 4K, etc. we can wait a few months more.

This is great news. Its going to be a showdown come E3 2013.

NastyLeftHook01981d ago

I agree, It will be the 3 time generation leader (sony) with the ps4.

Whatever micro has in store. And possible steambox! I would love to see what they do with that! I love half life and would gladly buy one for it. valve rocks.

EddieNX 1981d ago

3 Time generation Leader ?

Wii outsold ps3 , FYI and the DS destroyed the psp.

Jumper091981d ago

sony is not the leader anymore...

greenlantern28141981d ago

so far yes the wii has out sold the ps3 but history shows us sony supports their systems long after the next system comes out. think about this ps2 still sell so we can speculate that ps3 will sell long past the time wiis and 360s are not so time will tell who sells more.

Kamikaze1351981d ago

Awesome. I can just imagine Sony taking an hour to talk about this at E3 before announcing their next console, lol.

StrongMan1981d ago

History has proven that next gen starts when Sony says so.

LOGICWINS1981d ago

I typically try to support Sony anyway I can when it comes to their products. Not because I'm a fanboy, but because Sony tends to deliver on the value front. I just got me a pair of Pulse Wireless headsets(unbelievable clarity that sound BETTER than my wired Tritton Ax Pros). I also plan on getting the Xperia Z this year.
