PS Vita Essential Games Guide

Glacier928: "Sony’s latest portable device has been out for almost one year now, with it also being nearly a year since we’ve gotten our hands on it back at PlayStation Blog’s Community Meetup Event held in NYC. When we first got our hands on the device, we were immediately impressed with how the system felt. The overall design gave it a sleek and downright sexy look, while providing for an incredibly solid build. With the console approaching it’s one year anniversary in the US, I look back at all the Vita games I’ve played in the various genres and provide my personal favorites that pertain to each category." (Gravity Rush, Persona 4 Golden, PS Vita, Retro City Rampage, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Wipeout 2048)

If you have a Vita, get Assassin's Creed III: Liberation. It's the best AC next to 2 and one of the best handheld games ever made.
TriangleOffense  +   1045d ago
I got liberation when they had that flash sale of AC3 and Liberation for $60. Its my next game to play
gtr_loh  +   1045d ago
Liberation's 1.02 patch killed me... My 100+ hours spent collecting everything was gone cause my save file was corrupted somehow...
r21  +   1045d ago
Damn man that sucks. At least you had a great time playing the game though.
metsgaming  +   1045d ago
i hear they released a patch to fix that save game glitch, alot of people stopped when they heard of the glitch and waited for the patch.

100+ hours and you still had something left to do? Wow that's one long game then, what activities do you have in the game?

About the saves, did you try deleting the game data? As far as I know your saves are stored somewhere else, at least that's how it works for PS3 if I'm not mistaken.

I'm personally having ALOT of fun with LBP Vita and Persona 4 Golden.
oONinjavitiSOo  +   1045d ago
Agreed! Also love Ragnarok odyssey! I have 12 vita games and all are fantastic minus cod:bod. Definitely looking forward to more great games this year. And not just for the vita but for all consoles and handhelds alike.
SaiyanFury  +   1045d ago
I've loved my Vita since I picked it up on launch day. I have 3 of the aforementioned games being Uncharted, Gravity Rush, and Persona 4: The Golden. I also have Dynasty Warriors NEXT. I only got Persona 4 a week or so ago, but I have to be honest; it's the first game I bought that continually drags me back to my Vita for hours on end. I love all the games I have but it's the single one that I keep loading over and over. Easily the best JRPG (my favourite genre) I've played in quite a long time. And on the Vita's boss OLED screen it looks fantastic.
DivineAssault  +   1045d ago
love my vita.. I hope sony can manage to drop the price a bit this year so others can see how amazing it really is.. what a shame people cant see its beauty cuz its TOTALLY worth the asking price with those bundles
Kingofwiiu  +   1045d ago
just bought a Vita and I like it! It's not some AMAZING device though , it's just wuite good.

Uncharted , Gravity rush , Rayman Origins are what I have and they're all excellent. However I bought it of a kid who had declassified pre installed and that game sucks...
TheLastGuardian  +   1045d ago
I agree with the choices in the article except I would change best downloadable game from RCR to Sound Shapes. Also I would add Lumines: Electronic Symphony as best puzzle game.

I clicked disagree and you went from 2 bubbles to 1 LMAO. Btw, I disagreed because I think it is amazing. You probably do think it's amazing, but won't admit it because of your bias.

Besides you've only played a handful of Vita games so far. Get LBP, Sound Shapes, WipEout, P4G, Lumines, Super Stardust, Mutant Blobs Attack, Escape Plan, Dokuro, Retro City Rampage, Ragnarok Odyssey and AC3: Liberation.
teedogg80  +   1045d ago
Don't forget Unit 13. It's a way better game than BO Declassified.
sprinterboy  +   1045d ago
sound shapes, uncharted, gravity rush are awesome, in fact not played a bad game on it yet.
guitarded77  +   1045d ago
Then don't play Reality Fighters or Chronovolt... they both suck. But the games you listed are great. One game that's constantly overlooked is New Little King's Story... great game with many hours of gameplay.
LordMe  +   1045d ago
I own Gravity Rush and Shinobido 2, both are great games. I got Uncharted: Golden Abyss from PS+ which is also a great game.

Need to get Ragnarok, and P4G now.
SCW1982  +   1045d ago
Loved Golden Abyss and loving mutant blobs attack
amaguli  +   1045d ago
I would highly recommend Persona 4 Golden, Ragnarok Odyssey, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward, and BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend.

I am fully aware that the last two games are not exclusives, but I won't let that stop me from recommending them.
LordMe  +   1045d ago
I have been hearing about Zero Escape considering getting it now... Does it come with Japanese dub or not?
amaguli  +   1045d ago
Yep, you can switch between the English and Japanese dubs.
CrescentFang  +   1045d ago
If things don't make sense to you I suggest playing or watching a playhrough of it's prequel nine persons, nine hours, nine doors (or 999). The game relies heavily on story content (kind of obvious since they are part visual novel)
Blastoise  +   1045d ago

Actually, in the European/Australian version you can only have Japanese dubs with English subtitles. So if you live in the EU get ready to read a lot...
LordMe  +   1045d ago
Awesome. I will end up getting it soon then, the bunny kind of bothered me in the English dub of it.

Thank you, you sold me on the game!

I have Uncharted, Gravity Rush, Unit 13, PSABR, AC Liberation, Rayman Origins, Virtua Tennis 4 and NFS Most Wanted. Everyone says Vita has no games, but there's is still so many games I need to get. And Most Wanted is unreal on Vita. Criterion did a good job! Crazy handheld.
remanutd55  +   1045d ago
Little Big Planet, Sonic&All Stars Racing Transformed, Oddworld Stranger's Wrath HD, Uncharted golden Abyss, Playstation All Stars Battle Royale, Resistance Burning Skies, Wipeout 2048, Sound Shapes, Gravity Rush are the game i love on the vita, i think i will get Ragnarok Odyssey pretty soon.
Knushwood Butt  +   1045d ago
Unit 13 got overlooked but it's a great little game.

Great replay value too with the daily challenge.

Online coop is also a lot of fun.
Godchild1020  +   1045d ago
Over the span of 11 months I own Escape Plan, PlayStation All-Stars, Disgaea 3, Person 4 Golden (Haven't played yet), Call of Duty: Declassified, Modnation Racers, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Rayman, New Little Kings Story, Dokuro, Unit 13, Stranger's Wrath, Kyntt Underground, MotorStorm RC (But this was free from Scion), Gravity Rush, Silent Hill, Sound Shapes, Mutant Blobs attacks, Smart As, Need for Speed, Assassin's Creed, Mortal Kombat and Little Big Planet. I also bought 2 lego games for it.

That list doesn't include PSP games, Minis or PSM games I have downloaded. Uncharted and Gravity Rush was purchase before they came to plus.
Kingofwiiu  +   1045d ago
That's an impressive list , and I see you don't mind buying hidden gems regardless of the review scores , I have 28 boxed 3DS games and about 15 VC and Eshop games. I just bought a vita and it's pretty sweet... Hope the sales can do something half decent within next year.
Godchild1020  +   1045d ago
I don't own as many 3DS games, but I own a decent amount. Mario Kart 7, Heroes of Ruin, Code of Princess (Recent bought), Kingdom Hearts: DDD, Pokemon Rumble Blast, Legend of Zelda 3D and PushMo.
TongkatAli  +   1045d ago
I like Smart As.
CrescentFang  +   1045d ago
I know it's a port... but I consider Ninja Gaiden (Sigma Plus) a classic. This classic game on the go was an instant purchase for me when I got the Vita. One of my favorite games of all time.
born2live  +   1045d ago
Best fighter: Battle Royale? Come on... UMvC, MK and SFxT are all better...
Zechs34  +   1045d ago
And super recycled.

Anyone who's wanted to play those games has probably already done or own different variations of them.

At least I do.

All Stars by far is the most fun out of that bunch IMO.
Killzoner99  +   1045d ago
I love my Vita . It's the BEST handheld ever made. You can't lose with any game in its library not to mention you can play any PS3 game via cross buy or remote play. Can 3DS do that? Nope , it cannot . That makes the Vitas catalog practically bottomless. I am proud to own my Vita.
Long Live Play

I love my Vita too, but I would like to know what PS3 games you're playing with remote play. From what I've heard there are only a couple of games that even work with it. Every PS3 game I own doesn't work with remote play.

Games I have for Vita:
Uncharted Golden Abyss.
Gravity Rush.
Ragnarok Odyssey.
LBP Vita.
LBP2 cross controller.
Persona 4 Golden.
Wipeout 2048.
Mutant Blob Attacks.
Jet Set Radio.
Then I also have a collection of PSP and PS1 and PS2 games.
Vagrant Story.
God Of War Ghost Of Sparta.
TR Anniversary.
I love my Vita and I never even owned a hand held gaming console before this. I must have missed out on alot of good games before this.
TooTall19  +   1045d ago
For Vita I have PS+ games, Ragnarok Odyssey, Dokuro, Smart As..., Pure Chess, Rayman Origins, Disgaea 3, Unit 13, When Vikings Attack, Retro City Rampage, PS All Stars, Foosball 2012, and Motorstorm RC. Sadly, I need to get my PS3 back before I can download PS All Stars.
metsgaming  +   1045d ago
Love the vita my top 5 games i played are
Uncharted Golden Abyss
Wipeout 2048
Gravity Rush

Ult iMate  +   1045d ago
So, this is the list thread?
I have like.. let's see..
Uncharted GA, Unit 13, Rayman Origins, ModNation Racers, Resistance BS (kinda boring game, though played it throgh twice, lol), Touch My Katamari, Ridge Racer, MGS Collection, Gravity Rush, LBP Vita, AC3 Liberation, Project Diva f, Zero Escape, NFS MW, Oddworld Stranger's Wrath, Dungeon Hunter Alliance, Jet Set Radio.
And some smaller downloadable games: Sine Mora, Mutant Blob Attack, Zen Pinball, Sound Shapes, Plants vs Zombies, Knytt Underground...
I'd like to get WipEout 2048, Sonic Racing Transformed, Persona 4, Ragnarok Odyssey, DJ Max Technika Tune, and soon upcoming Retro City Rampage, Ratchet & Clank, Sly 4.

Hmm.. not a bad list for a system with "no games".
Actually, after buyng my Vita in march 2012, I practically don't play my stationary consoles anymore. It's really a monster handheld with amazing screen and controls.

im liking my vita my only problem is the price of games, 49.99plus 15%tax is to much for a handheld game in my eyes, im waiting for sales before i increase my collection. i already have plus for my ps3 so i have enough to keep me busy. AC3L is by far my fav game i have played on it. the whole idea of near is pretty cool as i have met more vita users through it.
TheDivine  +   1045d ago
Loved Gravity Rush, Uncharted, MGS, and the cherry on top is Perosna 4 which I missed on ps2. It's a killer system but needs more games, more RPGs specifically. The psp sold well due to the amazing RPGs it had. Same with the ds although Mario helped it reach ridiculous success levels. Once FFX releases, hopefully Type-0 releases, and some new RPGs it will pick up steam.

More devs need to put titles on vita though or it won't sell and won't get more games allowing it to sell more systems. It's a catch 22 because devs won't release games without a fan base but fans won't buy it without games. We need a good dev to put a big game like persona 5, MGS, or Gta on it to help out. 3ds went though the same thing and came out stronger. Now it's getting tons of huge games like SMT4, Soul Hackers, MH4, and Castlevania. Vita has the added benefit of handling downsized ports very well (see Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2). I know ports are so so but I'm glad if we get more stuff I missed like if we got Nocturn or Shadow Hearts from ps2 and more hd games like Sega All Stars Racing. The more games the better!

There are some JRPGs released and announced that are still only for Japan. Like Ys Celceta. ((( .
That's the problem with PSP too - it has plenty of great JRPGs (Valkyria Chronicles 3, Nayuta no Kiseki, The Story of Last Promice, Frontier Gate and many more) but they are only in japanese.

But wait this is impossible the Vita has no games.

LOL theres plenty to play on the Vita and so far im enjoying the console a lot.
Braid  +   1045d ago
You can always try PSP and PSX classics as well, they have some great games there including two GOW games, MGS Peace Walker, MGS1, Silent Hill, some RE games, Castlevania, Persona games, Crash Bandicoot series as well as Oddworld Stranger's Wrath which I highly recommend, Munch's Oddsey should be there as well.
o-Sunny-o  +   1045d ago
My most enjoyed was
Uncharted Golden Abyss
MGS HD Collection
Persona 4 Golden
Shinobido 2
Gravity Rush
Love my Vita!
I need to buy my 3DS back eventually...or wait till Animal Crossing comes out...
