Zelda Bosses: Downsizing the Enemy

ZD writes: It’s interesting to talk about the size of the bosses in the Zelda series, and I wrote about this before in another article, where I talked how the bosses in Zelda had stagnated in terms of concept and design. All the bosses at the time seemed to be titanically huge, follow a tired, predictable formula, and were ironically extremely easy to beat despite their intimidating size. Skyward Sword seems to have begun to reverse that trend a bit, but I’ll get into that later. The main thing is, after Skyward Sword, I think this topic should be revisited in more detail.

Ill just say in skyward word fighting the imprisoned 3 times was annoying.

In general, SS suffered from boss repetition.

Honestly, I didn't really mind it. As much love as OOT and MM bosses get, there were some I just found terribly annoying. Less like fights, more like puzzles.

But then, I've never felt that the bosses were the defining element of the franchise. I've always been much more keen on the exploration and discovery elements of the game.

I agree completely. The imprisoned was not an interesting enemy to me, so fighting him 3 times got annoying to me.

I liked the Ghirahim fights, though. I remember how much of a curveball the first fight was. It was pretty difficult for a first boss fight. In terms of difficulty, It could have fit comfortably in the second half of the game IMO.

The Zelda boss's are easy and predictable,are you kidding me.have you ever played ocarina of time where you fight you're self in the shadow link saga!was he easy and predictable.

Older style boss' were always something I knew I could beat. Each boss had a patern and I had to follow it.

Skyward sword, which might be my new number 1 however often left me wondering what to do. I had to google real quick on the final boss simply because I wasnt putting the patter, the boss puzzle, and getting the openings to kill him.

Imprissioned 3 sucked. I couldnt figure out how to run around him in time to fight him for the longest time. the game holds my hand every step of the way expect the one time I as a player dont see a solution.

Anything that blocked was also annoying. Ghirahim fight 1 while I never took damage took for ever and left me as a player feeling like I had to cheat the wii-mote. I pointed it to my right, then quickly moved it further right so that link would do a slash from the left. I never felt like a skilled swords man due to it.
