Today in History: January 13th, 1985 – Gyromite and Rob The Robot Break the Fourth Wall

Triverse writes, "Developers spend so much time trying to figure out how to immerse the gamer into the game they are playing and usually fail miserably resulting in a wild mess. The sad fact is, Nintendo had already broken that fourth wall of entertainment way back in 1985- that is right, 28 years ago today the fourth wall of gaming came crashing down. For the first time, gamers were interacting with the game in a manner still unmatched. Gyromites’ claim to fame was the undoubtedly Rob the Robot which interacted with the player and game, effectively immersing the player in the game world." (Retro)
