Minecraft sells 15 million copies in 2012

From humble beginnings to fame and popularity: Minecraft has sold 15 million copies by the end of 2012 with the PC/Mac, Xbox and Pocket editions combined. (Android, iPhone, Minecraft, Mobile, PC, Xbox 360)

It's much deserved. It always pleases me when I see Notch making huge donations to the Indy Bundles - financially helping out other indie developers around the world.

A great game from a great guy - maybe there is something to be learned from that? Haha

Shit I meant to agree man my bad, was gonna say samething great to see indy games get this much attention def. Rivals some of the bigger games and 15 million is very impressive.

"A great game from a great guy..."

Hahahaha

No.

Notch may look like a "good guy" to someone who doesn't know all the crap he did after Minecraft gained all this popularity... But he's not a good guy. Not at all.

That's an insane amount of sold. I have no idea what makes people play this "game". I don't even consider it a game at all. It needs to have an ending for me to think of it as a game :) lol!

Anyway if people like to play this and dev gets compensated more power to all. Not my cup of tea though.

I hear ya man and feel the exact same!

the game has an ending ;)

you should give it a try, if you didn't play it, the internet makes you think that it's just about building stuff, it has more to it than that.

imo minecraft has one of the best gaming loops ever. The closest example I can find to compare it to is the hunting in farcry 3. So if you've like that give minecraft a try.

5 million on Xbox 360 is just insane. Who said "XBLA games do not count!"?
InTheLab  +   833d ago
Who said that? XBLA has been the backbone of Xbox for the last 3 or 4 years.

Most successful indie game ever!

its amazing that the pc version is that close, it came out long beofe the other versions.
Belking  +   833d ago
Actually the android and ios versions came out before the PC and xbox360 ones.
Software_Lover  +   833d ago
I've never played it.
RedSoakedSponge  +   833d ago
does anyone know how many copies its sold in total?

is it the highest selling game ever? lol
InTheLab  +   833d ago
Why isn't this game on Vita/PS3 and 3DS? Could easily double that number...
PirateThom  +   833d ago
I play it on my phone from time to time, it's not something I want to invest that much time in because it's really not that interesting.

This is what happens when Creativity is at the forefront instead of just barely being used.
