GotGame: At CES 2013, Hauppauge announced two brand new HD PVRs to their line-up, including the HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition Plus.
Never liked Hauppauge's hardware and the software pretty awful. Check El Gato hardware/software combo it smacks anything out there and they offer proper support for both Win and Mac. http://www.elgato.com/elgat...
I've had a Happ and was better than some cheaper Windows solutions and amazing with Eyetv on the Mac. Even after getting my Elgato, I still don't see a huge difference between the 2.
Difference in quality isn't something you could pick unless you compare the same footage, side by side. Unfortunately, every 14 year old who has a device and who uploads quickscope COD videos to YouTube, they have this special ability to see the difference in quality and will tell you otherwise. I've read that with the El Gato, your PC needs to be pretty decent to handle the recording. That's the only negative thing I hear about it.
I really like the Elgato as well. It was very easy and simple to setup and use
El Gato's Capture HD device is really good.
I was overly excited when I got my HD PVR 15-16 months ago. Such a great device and it paid itself off in no time. Then I heard about the HD PVR 2 and I knew I had to get it. Installation was a pain in the A because the software was horrible and the device was not recognisable unless you manually deleted a file from system32. That didn't work either, so we had to wait for Hauppauge to release a little tool which deleted this file (associated with the HD PVR) so the HD PVR 2 would actually work. Then came the customisation of settings which would not save..... Don't get me wrong, the devices are great, but for its cost, you would expect much better support. And please, don't get me started on Sony Vegas. That was just a nightmare! These hardware additions are pointless if the software is horrible. Chances are, they still are.
You get the Streameez software(does this replace Arcsoft because I see no mention of it?) bundled with the new gaming edition plus(I have only heard good things about it but I cant use it with Hauppauge PVR 1). I noticed no mention of Arcsoft software--anyone else? I like the fact that I can buy what amounts to a multi entertainment center if you really look at it. I'm getting a capture card with streaming software an IR blaster, with what looks like free Tivo service with a channel changer and their bundled win &--which means I can get Tv for my Iphone anywhere anytime... .. I can capture surround sound plug in optical...this is so much better than the PVR that I have(which I paid 250 for) You get more bang for your buck than just a basic capture card--think about it! I would like to see video of this. I do know that they are releasing the Streameez pro from what they said on Facebook...multi streams to youtube justin tv twitch etc... Think about how much you get here---this is more than just a capture card.
I seen this at CES good bit of kit .
