The Last Ever Issue Of Xbox World Isn’t Impressed By Crystal Dynamic’s Tomb Raider Reboot
Xbox World magazine has published their last ever issue, but that didn't stop them reviewing the new releases, and previewing the upcoming ones, including Crystal Dynamic's Tomb Raider reboot, which they weren't very impressed by.
(PC, PS3, Tomb Raider 2013, Xbox 360)
Should have followed the survival aspects of Mgs 3 where you gain stamina and life by eating the surrounding flora and fauna. A feature like that would have made it into one awesome title.
regenerating health, no swimming, simplified puzzles with a cheat feature. This is no tomb raider game this is an action game Uncharted wannabe cash-in. RIP Lara.
Stuff like regenerating health and maybe no swimming is disappointing, but the game still looks pretty good. Like a more open Uncharted with RPG-ish elements and exploration. I wouldn't judge the puzzles just yet and an optional cheat feature isn't killing anyone.
I just pray the QTEs, cinematic set-pieces, and Lara-beatings aren't laid on as thick as they seemed to be in the first footages. Here's hoping the game turns out great.
I don't think there's anything wrong with a conversation about games inspiring each other, it's just a shame when people become overly defensive about it. It's no insult to the games to say they drew inspiration from somewhere else :D
They've both been amazing franchises, impacting the industry in different ways. Here's hoping the new Tomb Raider turns out great.
Wonder how people would react if Sony made new games with such blatant rip offs of Halo, Gears of War, Alan Wake. They would be trashed so badly from everyone, yet This game is praised.. wth.
Look at Playstation All Stars, some might think it's a rip off of Super Smash Bros but Sony and the developers involved try their hardest to make their version of the game unique and differnt.
They came up with the rival system and the Supers to kill people with instead of relying on health/percentages....now they could add them in the next game as options but they still thought of new ways to make their games differnt.
Sorry but I just don't see that, it look like Uncharted, even the multiplayer does.
It dosen't look like it's tried to be differnt
I mean with the online people bring up the traps but then again Uncharted had dymanic maps which were a nice addition to the game. If the next Uncharted had a temple where the dynamic theme for the map was all the temple traps in the game go off at the same time could people compare it to Tomb Raider...nope, because dynamic elements to the maps have always been in Uncharted.
This is looking to be the best Tomb Raider ever!!! Plus with multiplayer to challenge Uncharted Boraaahhhh!!!!! I know I will get like a hundred disagrees, but know this you will all play the game no matter what. Why? Because you are gamers that's why. Who gives a fu*k about fanboyism, entitlement, and who is hardcore gamers or casual gamers!!! Your gamers so play!!! Yeah some people saw that I am a Xbox owner, but I am also a PS3, and Wii owner I gave up that fanboyism long ago. All this negative talk about Tomb Raider will fade away when people realize that this Tomb Raider is just as good or better than the previous games. Yeah the multiplayer looks like Uncharted, but the main focus is different, despite Free for all. It has traps from the start, and heavy focus on exploration for multiplayer. Guys you should read the Offical Xbox Magazine. They give you alot more details about Tomb Raider.
I just wish they would have done a little something more original and experiment a bit to inject something new to the genre, granted we haven't see the full game yet so maybe they'll bring something new to the table. Enjoy the game regardless and you guys will now get to see what makes UC franchise so great.
I think it'll just turn out be an okay action-adventure title. I don't think it will fail in the sales sense as its attracting a hell of a lot of attention, so people will likely pick it up just to see.
And overrated is such a subjective thing I'm not even going to go near it :D
I reckon it'll just be okay. Nothing special, nothing terrible. Worth picking up when it's cheaper or if you're into the more cinematic style of gaming

Bored of the Uncharted comments though, it's perfectly fine to play and enjoy both.
