GCO: "In response to an article bashing his knowledge about Valve and PC gaming, Bayonetta creator Hideki Kamiya tried to repair his own reputation."
Today was a good day.
Not really This whole confrontation could've been avoided if Kamiya just read the article and if Kotaku have came up with a better title. The article didn't even bash his knowledge of PC gaming or Valve instead it explain PC gaming and services like Steam performed&used in Japan.
There is never a reason to defend Kraptaku no matter what they say. They are a blight and should be expunged from any aspect of gaming.
"Kotaku has no credibility as they are essentially the TMZ of gaming." Nailed it.
Or Kotaku could have written an appropriate headline rather than a sensationalist headline trying to attract more heat and readers. Bunch of nobs.
@DragonKnight: I don't understand the hatred for a website. I base my opinion on the story itself, not what the website has done in the past unless it is a unconfirmed rumors alas something unsubstantiated.
Wow, the disagrees. And if you look at every reply hating on Kotaku, it honestly sounds like some kind of religious cult. "Believe and follow what we say, as anyone, regardless of each individuals style on Kotaku is garbage because of association with that website." Just because Kotaku has some shitty articles doesn't mean the whole website and everyone involved are terrible. As for Hideki Kamiya, THIS guy is ridiculously unprofessional and responded like a pre-teen upset about a comment heard from a person before asking the people themselves (or reading the article). And so far he's been saying nothing but garbage so I'll be ignoring all his games from now on (not that Bayonetta was any good anyways).
@Tron Except the whole website is terrible. When you put out 95% crap and 5% decent stories, you will not be judged on that 5%. Not to mention we need developers calling out these "journalists" (let's be real here, they're not journalists in any sense of the word) out. Example: Jaffe and Kuchera https://soundcloud.com/ben-...
Kotaku has been putting out bad articles for a long time; they used to be decent a while back but now they're not.
@Zeal0ous- lets see....gaming legend....vs Kotaku. LMFAO! He was right to say what he said. Kotaku are idiots. They don't make news...they troll it.
@TronEOL, I would agree with you....except you are wrong. Kotaku has been a blight on all of gaming. It isn't the matter of a few erred articles. That might be overlooked as you suggest. No, the entire sight has been a farce and not a funny one either. Instead of a few mistakes they have damaged gaming and been on the whole, a disservice to gamers everywhere. Their actions are simply too numerous to list. It isn't an article or two, it's the modus operandi of the entire venture. As bad as Brian Crecente was, and he was horrendous, almost impossibly, matters now have become worse since his departure.
I will get disagree for this but didn't he say it him self? https://twitter.com/PG_kami... How can you say "I don't know anything about pc" then get mad when an article say "You don't know about pc" ?? Just saying.
He was more annoyed at Kotaku's inference that he speaks for the entirety of Japan. That, and being called "clueless". Which to be fair, would piss me off a well.
Calling him "the guy who made Bayonetta" is a little bit insulting too. He has a bloody name, Kotaku! And he's done more for the gaming industry than just "make Bayonetta"...which is more than can be said for Kotaku. Though writing "Hideki Kamiya is unfamiliar with PC gaming" might not have gotten them as many hits as the more attention-seeking headline they did use.
I kind of applaud Hideki for saying I don't know and Kotaku's hit seeking and flame bait of an article a little unnecessary. However, Kotaku does have a point. Why doesn't a well known Japanese developer know more about PC gaming?
@Pozzle "Why doesn't a well known Japanese developer know more about PC gaming?" PC Gaming in Japan is a very niche market. It's not like in the West where PC Gaming is big and has a respectable scene. In Japan, the majority of PC games include Visual Novels, Hentai and Korean MMOs.
I hope Kraptaku goes down permanently down one of these days. They are an abomination and disgrace to video gaming.
I can't believe they're still around at all, let alone that their sh*tty articles even get accepted here... It's embarrassing, really.
You should be protecting the internet instead of posting stuff in a gaming site
When Kotaku says that the PS4 is the best next gen console.. then Kotaku will matter. Just like IGN. Just saying. And we all know that's the truth. Funny to see that Kotaku also is a bigger site by rank than N4G according to alexa.com Kotaku is ranked 717 in the usa, and in the 1000's world wide,.. while n4g is in the 4000's world wide and like 2000 in the usa. Poor hipster video game fans on this site and their love for N4G.
"Just saying. And we all know that's the truth" Yeah if you live in your own little delusional world.
Agree or Smith will terminate you!
LIKE A BOSS
Fantastic. I'm glad to see Kamiya, who is responsible for some of the greatest games ever made, put the barrel-scraping scum-bags at Kotaku in their place.
lmfao,i kind of saw this coming.
At least someone has the balls to do it publicly. Someone famous I mean cause I know the average internet user already expresses their hate for Kotaku.
I wish more developers are more vocal about their own opinions like Hideki Kamiya.
Some are and they get lambasted for their views. Sometimes it's justified, but no developer wants to lose potential customers for saying one dumb thing. Phil Fish comes to mind.
It's one thing to say just one dumb thing. Phil Fish happens to have a bag full of quotes. "Suck my d**k. Choke on it." "I will become the face of gaming. Just you f***ing wait." "PCs are meant for spreadsheets, not gaming." (I found this one particularly hilarious because he later complain about Xbox Live's patching policy and how Steam would be much better to patch his game.
@Krimmson I suggest you watch Indie Game: The Movie. Phil Fish is not TOO bad of a guy. He's just a normal fellow who seems to have a hard time conveying his messages without seemingly insulting someone. So I don't mind those quotes too much. The "Japanese games suck" one is what irked me the most, and that was without a great deal of context.
yep, one that comes to mind is David Jaffe. You can love or hate his games but he's always honest in public.
I know Kotaku ain't all that great, I personally do not like them, but this was REALLY unprofessional on Kamiya's part. He didn't even bother to read the article to see what they were saying, then he started bashing tons of people on Twitter about it, even going as far as to make "your mom" jokes. Luke Plunkett simply asked if Kamiya had read the article, and Kamiya's response was "Do you eat shit?". He took the whole situation WAY too far over nothing. The article itself actually wasn't that bad at all. I definitely will not be purchasing any of his companies games in the future, I won't support this kind of unprofessionalism.
I don't know if you follow him on twitter or not but that guy writes like 500 replies to tweets a day. He replies to almost everyone that writes to him. He's always blunt, honest, and doesn't worry about PR. I love the guy.
I understand that, but he really went too far this time. And I think he realizes that considering that he's been deleting some of his rude tweets. Not all of them, some are still there, but a ton of them have been deleted, many of them were where he used racial slurs. I understand about being blunt, and honest. That's a good thing. But being racist, rude, and ignorant is not ok, especially not for someone in a position such as his. He expects to sell games to westerners, yet he has no problems insulting and degrading them.
I didn't see the racist stuff... That's weird because he sure works with a lot of westerners at Platinum.
Well, Kamiya was right. Do you eat shit? No matter how good it looks. Shit is still shit and Kraptaku is shit. end of story.
Professionals are still human, and their taking part in social media forums like twitter and facebook is an attempt at humanizing them, making you see them as real people. Ironic, then, that you would shun someone for being human and responding accordingly. I like Kamiya's response for the same reason I like Jaffe's videos: they're unpolished, raw, HUMAN interactions. It's not a speech given in a suit and tie. It's not a statement released through an agent or PR division. It's a PERSON giving their PERSONAL opinion. No shit, it's not professional.
Meh. He's a respected guy in the gaming industry who has created some very classic and influential games in the past. He's pretty much at the point in life where he can talk how he wants because it isn't going to affect his sales or his job. And anyway, who are Kotaku to call him "clueless"? Who are they to turn his simple comment about PC gaming into a ridiculous and unnecessary generalization as to why AN ENTIRE NATION OF PEOPLE WITH DIFFERENT OPINIONS AND VIEWS all hate PC gaming? It was silly, attention-seeking rubbish. And while I don't agree with any anti-Western comments Kamiya might have made, I can sorta see where he's coming from. Sites like Kotaku seem to love picking on Japanese devs for having "outdated" and "old fashioned" views or their "strange" and "perverted" games. It must get frustrating. Especially for people like Kamiya who have done so much for the gaming industry...which is more than can be said for Kotaku.
Whoa, well said. You deserve your bubbles, sir.
Agreed. Mind you, his comments weren't towards being Japanese HELLO HE DOESN'T MAKE PC GAMES! LMFAO! It was from him making console games. Its like asking music artist about acting. They don't hate it, they've just haven't done it enough to form such an opinion.
Everyone but Kotaku dislikes Kotaku for a fair amount of reasons.
I dislike Kotaku and feel that only monkeys write articles there, but I agree with the article (lol). Hideki Kamiya did come off as ignorant. After he responded to the article, I felt the urge to read it and I did, btw.
Not defending either party, they're both imbecilic, Kotaku for the original title of the article and Kamiya for raving on his twitter.
Kamiya always does that. Just remember when some guy asked him if he would let Sony put Bayonetta in it and he replied saying that he wouldn't because PS All-stars is a rip-off and he doesn't like rip-offs.
do you see how the guy is trying to make himself look good, while Kamiya is just being himself. It seems as if the guy is trying to be the good guy just to have more people agree with him, but who falls for that nowadays. I will side with Kamiya no matter what just because he is blunt and real unlike these fake people pretending to be Mr. right. Kamiya is in no way expressing ignorance, but the other guy is.
When Kamiya talks I listen. And if Kotaku is crap to him, I also think they are crap.
The point here is, Kotaku deliberately wrote up an inflammatory headline, something that has been prevalent in gaming media now for the past few years. Thus, it skews the article to promote a certain view, despite the fact that as an article, it sits on the fence. You can argue that Kamiya wasn't particularly professional in his response, but the title was designed to cause trouble. Gaming media is dangerous because low-level sites will realise that most gamers don't read the article and instead, cherry-pick opinions based on the title. Often though, developers and publishers are misquoted to make them seem stupid, or in this case, clueless. Kotaku will post about 3 decent articles annually, but trash like this is what keeps them up and running. Just be aware.
Why is this site still around. What kind of a name is Kotaku. I gotta go take a Kotaku.
I used to read the news at Kotaku until they changed their site layout (probably a year or so ago) and it seems like they quality declined as well.
It must have been tough for the, 'quality', to decline.
LMFAO@ hideki response " do you eat shit?"
Kotaku is garbage but Kamiya is still one of the biggest douchebags ever.
You might be the most negative person on n4g. I just scrolled through your recent comments... It's incredible...
I'm no fan of kamiya but this makes me want to buy everything he's worked on. What a badass.
ROTFL. I want to know what kotaku feel when they eat their own medicine, which are...shit XD
Kotaku deserves it.
*facepalm* I'm not taking any sides, but this type of behavior from anyone in the gaming industry, or journalism, (I use that term loosely when speaking of Kotaku) does not reflect well on the gaming industry as a whole. Why should this type of behavior be acceptable in the gaming industry?
