Why Gayness In Star Wars: The Old Republic Isn’t A Big Deal

Metal Arcade:

Though touted as an upcoming feature some time ago, the recent confirmation from BioWare producer Jeff Hickman that same-sex romances would be a gameplay mechanic in Star Wars: The Old Republic has reignited the forum flames. Trumpets flared and the earth quaked, the drums of war sending ripples through the air as the very fabric of the gaming continuum was torn asunder.

Actually, none of that happened. The sky did not fall and, somehow, some way, straight gamers did not magically get the urge to taste the rainbow. Granted, the comments section of various gaming outlets (let alone the game’s official forums) might make you think otherwise but, no, this was not the gamer apocalypse. Soon, there will be an option to court bromance in Star Wars: The Old Republic. Does it matter? (BioWare, Industry, PC, Star Wars:The Old Republic)

It's just a bid for attention. It would have been there from the get-go if they really cared. Or even in the first few months.

I don't know, they've actually been downplaying the whole thing. It's only the online community that's made a big deal of it. Obviously they've been busy with bigger things with the problems at launch and now the shift to F2P.

What are they gonna do, put an ad in the paper?

They change a few lines of code and the community took it from there. The dev/pub didn't have to make a big deal out of it.

This theme is also optional in Mass Effect 3 so I don't get why this would be a big deal.
